LEGENDARY Chelsea soccer star, Ron Harris will be guest of the Ennis branch of the Chelsea Supporters’ Club at a function in The Temple Gate Hotel on Saturday night, January 21.
During an illustrious playing career in the ’60s and ’70s, the full-back, affectionately known as ‘Chopper’, played 795 games for Chelsea, pitching him into the echelons of an elite group of players having made almost 800 appearances for the club.
Harris won an FA Youths Cup in 1961 and the following year, aged 17, made his debut with the senior team. He captained Chelsea to the FA Cup in 1970, thanks to Dave Webb’s replay winner against Leeds at Old Trafford, and to the European Cup Winners Cup in 1971.
A true Blue, he played for 21 years with Chelsea and was capped on two occasions by England.
At the Ennis function, Harris will display some of his sporting memorabilia, talk about the club then and now and regale supporters with some tales from his own time at Stamford Bridge.
An itinerary is being planned around his weekend visit and further details on the trip and tickets for the function are available from Jim McMahon on 086 8119086.
