Charities to benefit from Shannon event


THE first annual Lions Club Shannon 10km road race and 10km fun walk will take place this Saturday in Shannon, with a starting time of 12 noon from Shannon Leisure Centre.
Entries will be taken in the Shannon Leisure Centre or participants can register with RunIreland.com.
The event is in aid of Shannon Lions Club, which supports charitable and community organisations in Shannon, Newmarket-on-Fergus, Sixmilebridge, Kilmurry, Cratloe and Bunratty. The organisers have mapped out a very attractive route.
Local athlete James McIntyre, who runs with Olympic Harriers, will be among the leading contenders, along with Michael Shannon, Kilnaboy; Brian Murphy and Brian McGinley, Ennis Track and James Liddane, Olympic Harriers.
Contesting the masters’ titles will be Mike Cunningham, Bilboa; Terry Hennessy, St Cronan’s; Eugene Moynihan, Marian; Tom Mackey and James Kenny, Kilmurry Ibrickane/North Clare and Jim Carrigan and Pat Hogan, Ennis Track.
The ladies’ race should also be well contested with Clare athlete, Veronica Colleran, Ennis Track Club, along with Marian Burke, St Mary’s; Marie Carey, Hilda O’Connor and Aishling Power, all Ennis Track; Loretta Duggan, St Mary’s and Sharon Rynne, Kilmurry Ibrickane/North Clare, in contention.

25: Quin National School Fun Day and 10km run and walk at 12noon.
25: Loughrea AC’s The Grey Lake 10km at 2.30pm.
25: Cork City Mini Marathon.
25: Miltown Malbay National School four mile fun run in aid of the National School, Miltown Malbay, at 1pm.
26: West Clare National Schools’ Cross-Country Championships at Kilmihil at 11.30am.
28: Ennis National Schools’ Track and Field Sports Day in the Lees Road at 9.45am.
30: North Clare National Schools’ Cross-Country Championships on the lands of John and Bríd Collins, Kilnaboy, at 11am.
