Clare Community Games All-Stars named

AS another very successful year for Clare Community Games draws to a close, officials are busy preparing for annual general meetings across the county, the hosting of the annual All-Stars awards night, the Keep Clare clean project, the area awards function and the county annual meeting.
Arrangements are nearing completion for the annual All-Star awards night, which will take place on Friday, October 21 at the West County Hotel.
During the night, 73 children from the different events promoted by the organisation will receive awards.
Tickets are available from treasurer Rose Meakins at 086 8147799. This year’s award winners come from 19 areas from around the county.
This year’s Clare award winners are:
Art: Natasha Coughlan (Quin-Clooney) and Paraic O’Gorman (Kilmihil).
Model making: Lauren McConway (Quin-Clooney) and Paul Hamilton (Sixmilebridge-Kilmurry).
Athletics, track: Gearóid McMahon (Newmarket) and Tony Odubote (Ennis St John’s).

Meanwhile, the Keep Clare Clean awareness project, run in conjunction with Clare County Council and Shannon Development, is being promoted again this year. The purpose of the project is to encourage young people to use their creativity and imagination to highlight the need and importance of keeping their community and county clean and free from all types of litter.
There are categories for ages U-6, U-8, U-10, U-12 and U-14 on July 31, 2011. There is also a special category.
The competition can take the form of a poster or a poem and the closing date for receipt of entries is Friday, November 11. Entries must be sent to Cecilia O’Sullivan, Kevin Barry Avenue, Ennis.

Youth and adult awards
THE HSE National Awards have been in operation since 1993. The scheme acknowledges and rewards the work of Community Games volunteers.
Each area is invited to nominate one volunteer for both the youth and adult sections. One in each category will then be selected to represent Clare at the national awards function in Ballinasloe on Saturday, November 19.
The closing date for entries to the county competition is Thursday, October 6.

County AGM
THE Clare Community Games annual general meeting will take place on Tuesday, November 8 at the West County Hotel in Ennis. The closing date for nominations and motions is Friday, October 14.
