Clondegad 3-10   Lissycasey 1-13 ACCOUNTING for 2-9 of their final tally, Gary Brennan and Paudge McMahon played leading roles in Clondegad’s victory over Lissycasey in their entertaining contest at Lissycasey on Saturday evening.

Sixmilebridge 1-13   Inagh-Kilnamona 0-13 A goal by Caimin Morey, four minutes from the end, following a long range free by goalkeeper Derek Fahy proved decisive in this Division 1A Clare Champion Cup tie played at O’Garney Park, Sixmilebridge on Sunday afternoon.  

Ballyea 3-21   Smith O’Briens 0-15 Fresh from their great U-21A championship win, Ballyea produced an impressive performance on Sunday evening when recording their first win of the Division 1B campaign.

Banner Ladies 2-10   West Clare Gaels 3-4 THE U-16A ladies football final served up a very exciting game last Sunday in Cooraclare, where Banner Ladies overcame a strong West Clare Gaels resurgence, in the last 10 minutes, to retain the cup.  

  The first Olympic Harriers/Bridge Milers 10k road race and 5k fun walk was held in Sixmilebridge on Friday evening when almost 800 competitors took part. Over the first kilometre a group of five athletes made an early break. They were Michael Shannon (Kilnaboy), Michael Herlihy (North Cork), Sergio Ciobanu (Clonliffe Harriers), Kenneth Rodgers (St John’s), and Julio Cesear F Castro (Kilmurry Ibrickane/North Clare) and they went through the 1k mark in 2:51secs. Sergio Ciobanu was looking to beat 31:31secs which was Neil Cusack’s 10k split time when he won the Boston marathon in 1974. Joseph Mooney from the local Olympic Harriers was leading the next chasing group along with Jason Broderick (Craughwell) and Niall Shanahan (Limerick). Sergio Ciabanu went through the 2k point in 5:54 and he was now almost 50m clear. He came home a very comfortable winner in 30:33 beating Neil Cusack’s time of 31:31. Shannon’s Chris Bryan finished third in the first leg of the European 10K Open Water Cup, in Eilat, Israel in a time of 1:54:14.45, his first top three finish this season.

Mary Immaculate, Lisdoonvarna 0-14   Kilrush CS 1-5 Mary Immaculate Secondary School, Lisdoonvarna won the Clare colleges senior schools cup last Friday in Quilty when they overcame a determined Kilrush Community College outfit.

Killanena 2-7   Bodyke 3-4 Killanena and Bodyke need another day out to decide who will take the title of Junior B League winners for 2012, having played out an entertaining and competitive game in Ogonnelloe on Sunday morning.
