Developers remain committed to €60m Derg marina project

The developers of a proposed €60 million redevelopment of a marina on the shores of Lough Derg remain committed to the overall project, despite a withdrawal of the planning application this week. That’s according to Eclipse Development spokesman, Michael Parker who told The Clare Champion that the developers were still going ahead with and were fully committed to the major revamp of Derg Marina.

Marathon run for Caring for Carers

A Clooney-Quin hurler has turned his skills to running as he prepares to take part in the Dublin City Marathon at the end of the month and in doing so, he hopes to raise awareness for Caring for Carers.Sean Daffy from Clooney had never trained or participated in a marathon before but had always set a goal for himself to do one before he turned 30. However, in the midst of his first few training sessions tragedy struck his family and both his grandmothers died within a week of each other.

€200,000 Allenders Field role queried

Kilkee Town Councillor Claire Haugh has expressed her disappointment with how Allenders Field, located in the East End of the town, just off the Miltown Malbay Road, has not fulfilled its role as a recreational green walking area in the town.

River clean-up in Ennistymon

A team of local people got their hands dirty this week when they participated in a clean-up of part of the Cullinagh River, which flows through Ennistymon and is visible from the bridge on the town’s Lahinch Road. According to a spokesperson for the Ennistymon and District Community Organisation (EDCO), the group who organised and undertook the clean-up, the river has the potential to be a significant resource for the town, but, because of its condition, it has been under-utilised for a number of years.

Gort’s answer to the marathon man

DONAL Walsh is becoming a familiar figure on the roads of South Galway as he tunes up for the Dublin City Marathon, on October 26. Donal who is manager of Rosemount Nursing Home in Gort will be covering the 26.2 mile course to raise money for the Samaritans and he has been in training all year.
