Project Forest launched at St Patrick’s

PROJECT Forest, a programme for transition year pupils, was launched at St Patrick’s Comprehensive School in Shannon this week by RTÉ personality Éanna Ní Lamhna and Minister of State Tony Killeen. The programme is designed to take a broad approach to learning about trees. Its objectives are to create an understanding of the nature of woods and forests, to create an awareness of the role of forests in human existence, to encourage a sense of ownership of the forest environment and to encourage appreciation of wood as a material.

Contracts signed for new Ennis National School

It has been a long, drawn-out battle but finally there’s light at the end of the tunnel as regards the construction of a new school building to replace the existing Ennis National School. The campaign for a new school has been a 10-year process and counting but this week, design contracts were signed, moving the project for the development of a new building on a greenfield site at Ashline on the Kilrush Road, a step further.

Developers remain committed to €60m Derg marina project

The developers of a proposed €60 million redevelopment of a marina on the shores of Lough Derg remain committed to the overall project, despite a withdrawal of the planning application this week. That’s according to Eclipse Development spokesman, Michael Parker who told The Clare Champion that the developers were still going ahead with and were fully committed to the major revamp of Derg Marina.

Marathon run for Caring for Carers

A Clooney-Quin hurler has turned his skills to running as he prepares to take part in the Dublin City Marathon at the end of the month and in doing so, he hopes to raise awareness for Caring for Carers.Sean Daffy from Clooney had never trained or participated in a marathon before but had always set a goal for himself to do one before he turned 30. However, in the midst of his first few training sessions tragedy struck his family and both his grandmothers died within a week of each other.
