Gardai make seizure in Parteen

GARDAI have seized approximately €21,700 worth of cannabis, tobacco and cash following a search at a house in Parteen. Shortly before 8am on Saturday Detective Gardaí from Mayorstone Park and Henry Street Garda Stations, with assistance from the Armed Support Unit, executed a search warrant at a house in Parteen. During the course of the search Gardaí seized approximately €15,700 of suspected cannabis, €1,500 worth of tobacco and €4,500 in cash along with drug paraphernalia. The suspected cannabis will now be sent for analysis. No arrests have been made but Gardaí are following a definite line of enquiry.

Mary Considine appointed Chief Executive of Shannon Group

THE Board of the Shannon Group PLC has today (Friday) announced the appointment of Mary Considine as the company’s new Chief Executive. With over 25 years’ experience in industry, Mary is currently the Deputy CEO and CFO for the Group and has been Acting CEO since June 2019.     Mary, who is a native of Lissycasey, takes up the position with immediate effect.  Her appointment is for a seven-year term.  She is married to Éibhear and has three children. She is a qualified accountant and has extensive experience in aviation, finance, governance and commercial, having previously held a number of senior roles within Shannon Group. She was appointed Deputy CEO of Shannon Group (CFO, Company Secretary & Chief Risk Officer) in 2016, and subsequently appointed Acting CEO of Shannon Group in June 2019. Public urged to use UHL only for emergencies

UL Hospitals Group is urging members of the public to consider all care options before attending the Emergency Department (ED) at University Hospital Limerick (UHL) today, Tuesday October 15. The hospital is managing high volumes of patients that have arisen due to a busy 48-72 hours in the Emergency Department. “We apologise to those patients who are experiencing lengthy waits for beds, and we would like to reassure them, and their families, that we are working to alleviate the situation.  We are appropriately transferring patients to other hospitals in our Group and are working with the MidWest Community Healthcare to access appropriate beds within the community. Cliff fall in West Clare

A female has been removed to hospital following a cliff fall, while diving, near Miltown Malbay on Sunday afternoon. The injuries sustained by the woman are understood to be serious but not life threatening. A multi agency operation sprung into action to aid the casualty.

Council give go ahead to Trump Doonbeg ballroom

TRUMP International in Doonbeg has been granted planning permission from Clare County Council to build a ballroom and 53 holiday homes at the site in West Clare. The projected cost of the project is almost €40m. The resort will double in size as a result and will incorporate a new restaurant, along with a gate house. The construction of the ballroom and associated facilities will be a huge boost to the West Clare economy which was hit recently of news of 109 layoffs at ESB Moneypoint. The ball room will be 1,774 square metres in size and will be capable of catering for 300 guests.

Body recovered from Cliffs of Moher

A body was recovered from the base of the Cliffs of Moher on Wednesday afternoon. It is believed that the man is in his 20s and from Galway. The recovery was made during a search as a person had been seen falling from the Cliffs of Moher on Tuesday. Among those involved in the search on Tuesday and Wednesday were the Doolin based Irish Coastguard, Shannon based Rescue 115 and Gardai. The man was removed from the cliffs and brought to the Irish Coastguard building in Doolin before being removed to University Hospital Limerick for a post-mortem and identification.

Public to be clobbered as councillors back 15% increase in property tax

YOUR local council will be taking more of your money, as your representatives have opted to increase property tax in Clare by the maximum amount possible. On Monday, councillors increased the property tax by 15%, meaning they will extract the greatest amount of money possible from Clare householders. Have no doubt, the hit you face would be even greater but it was not legally possible to charge more. Bizarrely, some of those advocating raising the tax said that they were in favour of doing so, as the money collected would be spent in this county. As if the money being demanded from Clare householders was going to be sent elsewhere otherwise; as if the decision will not leave Clare consumers with less to spend in their local villages and towns. Two dead following Parteen Crash

TWO people have died and two others have been taken to hospital following a fatal road traffic collision that occurred at approximately 12noon on Thursday September 26 in Quinpool, Parteen. It’s understood at this time only one vehicle was involved. Two persons were pronounced dead at the scene, while two men in their early 20s were taken to University Hospital Limerick with serious injuries. Forensic Collision Investigators are at the scene and the road remains closed with local diversions are in place. An incident room at Mayorstone Park Garda Station has been set up. Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this incident to come forward, particularly any motorists who were travelling in the area between 12am and 1am who may have Dashcam footage.
