ARTIST Pauline Goggin may have recently left Clare, her home for 30 years but that doesn’t mean she has forgotten the county. Pauline lived and pained in Aherina, Kilmore for 30 years and much of the inspiration for the work in her new show, which opened in Cork this month, comes from her experiences of living and working in Clare. She has recently returned to live in her native Limerick and the theme of ‘return’ permeates her new exhibition, A Fool’s Dance, which is currently on display in The Cork Vision Centre. She has returned to the large drawings she first showed in Dublin in 1990 and these and other pieces have been incorporated with new works from 2009. Movie Review

BRINGING to light the harrowing stories of four women who spent time in the Magdalene Laundries, the documentary The Forgotten Maggies generated massive public interest and media attention on its debut at the Galway Film Fleadh earlier this year.Directed by Steven O’Riordan, the documentary will be shown in Glór this month and Steven will be in Ennis for the screening.Speaking about the film, Steven said, “The documentary film itself is no Hollywood blockbuster. It’s very raw and sometimes emotionally challenging. However, what it does do is show and tell the sincere understanding we had for these women and the willingness to fight against both Church and State and the impact this has on a wider audience, which is something a lot of documentaries sometimes miss.”

TWO Ennis artists will form half of a quartet of visual artists who will be featured in a new exhibition at Limerick City Hall over the next week and, reflecting the current economic times, four works of art will be raffled free of charge on the night.

THE Tulla Stables Arts Studios in East Clare will be holding an open day on Saturday from 1pm to 6pm, which will coincide with the Tulla Traditional Music Festival.Located in an old building, which dates back to 1817 when it was originally used as stables by families of the local Church of Ireland congregation, the refurbished studios were part of the County Arts Development Plan to address the needs of local artists.
