Breen gives directions to the White House

Pat Breen TD, former pupil at St Flannan’s College in Ennis, on a visit to the the school where he congratulated Caitlin Horgan, Peter Stack, Mike O’Dea and Natalia Abramczyk on their recent win at the NASA Ames International Space Development Contest.
CLARE TD Pat Breen may be better associated with Dáil Éireann, but this week he lent his political experience to a group of Ennis students on their way to Washington.
Pupils from St Flannan’s College recently came second in their category at the elite NASA/Ames annual space settlement design competition. As part of their win, Caitlyn Horgan, Mike O’Dea, Peter O’Connell Stack and Natalia Abramczyk will travel to the International Space Development Conference in Washington DC later this month.
Teacher Michael Horgan said the students hope to
visit the White House during their trip and they were thrilled to welcome Deputy Breen to the school this week.
“As an ex-pupil of St Flannan’s it was great to have Deputy Breen come in to speak to the students. We are hoping to get to visit the White House while we are in Washington and Deputy Breen spent a lot of time describing it to them.
“He told them what to expect there and what they will see in each room. The students parents also came to the school, they are all really proud. And the students are getting more and more excited as the trip gets closer,” he said.
The students are all members of the St Flannan’s Science Club. The competition challenged them to engineer and design a space colony capable of housing thousands of inhabitants.
