Avenue United 3
Avenue United advanced to the next round of the FAI Junior Cup on Sunday when they overcame Classic FC in Kerry but they were the only Clare side to win on Sunday as Bunratty-Cratloe, Manus Celtic, Ennis Town Rock and Newmarket Celtic all tasted defeat.
In Tralee on Sunday, Avenue took the lead when David Smith’s corner wasn’t cleared and the ball ended up in the net. The home side levelled from the penalty spot and the sides went to the break, 1-1.
In the second half Avenue held the
upperhand and goals from Mikey Mahoney and Sean Corry ensured their passage to the next round of this competition.

Bunratty-Cratloe FC 2
(after extra time, Dingle won 4-2 on penalties)
A penalty shoot-out was required to separate the sides in this tie played at Dingle on Sunday.
The West Kerry side took the lead midway through the first half but the visitors equalised through Diarmuid Nash and the sides went to the break at 1-1 each.
Midway through the second half, Dingle went back in front but again Nash equalised for the visitors and the sides were level with 15 minutes remaining.
Extra time failed to separate the teams and it went to a penalty shoot out. The visitors got a great start when Wesley De Loughrey saved the first Dingle spot kick before Paul Butler and Brian McMillan scored for the Clare side.
However, both Sean Hynan and Paudge Collins failed to convert their spot kicks that proved costly and ended Bunratty-Cratloe’s involvement in this season’s competition.

Broadford 6
Desmond League side Broadford scored in the first minute and again half an hour later to lead 2-0 at half-time. Mikey Geraghty scored a header from a corner 10 minutes into the second half and with 15 minutes to go it was still 2-1.
Broadford scored four goals in the remaining time to run out deserving winners but the final margin was a little flattering in the visitors’ favour.

Newcastle west 3
Ennis Town Rock exited the FAI Junior Cup at Lees Road on Sunday when they went under to Newcastle West.
The home side started brightly but Stephen Hickey failed to capitalise on an easy opportunity and his weak shot was wide of the target. The home side lost Rowan Eade to injury as the mid-point of the half approached. Shortly after this they found themselves behind as Keith Power scored for the visitors. This goal separated the sides at half time.
A fine individual goal from Stephen Hickey early in the second half had the sides back on terms. With 15 minutes to go, Newcastle West took the lead again when the Ennis side’s defence failed to deal with a long free kick and Scott Hurley scored for the visitors from close range.
The home side piled on the pressure in search of another equaliser and both Hickey and Dean Gardiner came close. However, with so many players moving forward in search of a goal, it was the visitors who struck shortly before the full-time whistle when Tony Quaid raced clear and beat the advancing Loftus.

Newmarket Celtic 2
Ballingarry 3
Newmarket Celtic bowed out of the FAI Junior Cup at McDonogh Park on Sunday despite having enough chances to have won this tie against their Desmond League opponents.
However, Ballingarry’s goalkeeper was outstanding on the day and he produced a string of top class saves to ensure his side’s passage to the next round.
The visitors scored midway through the first half and this goal separated the teams at half time.
Fifteen minutes into the second half Alan Kelly levelled for Celtic but ten minutes. later the visitors were back in front when they had their second. Newmarket again fought back and Mark Donlon levelled but Ballingarry had the final say when they scored the winner with seven minutes remaining.
