Apprentice ensemble search begins

THE Galway Music Residency is beginning its annual search across the country to find their Apprentice Ensemble for the residency programme.
Last year’s search was so successful that three apprentice ensembles were chosen to take part, Golden String Cello Duo from Limerick, Cantabile Piano Trio from Gort and SoundPost String Quartet from Galway.
These lucky musicians enjoyed a full year of one-to-one training and access to the internationally acclaimed Galway ensemble in residence, Con Tempo Quartet from Romania. As well as working with the professional Con Tempo Quartet, the ensembles were also given a number of high-profile performance opportunities as part of their apprenticeship with The Galway Music Residency.
The successful ensemble will also be provided with practice space and resources to further their instrumental proficiency both as individual players and within ensemble playing. The prestigious position will last for one year running from April to April 2012.
Closing date for the 2011 Apprentice Ensemble Scheme is February 22 with auditions happening on March 1 and 2. Full entry details and application forms are available on www.thegalwaymusicresidency.ie or by post. For further information, call 091 586706.
