Airport to spread wings abroad to Turkey

SHANNON got a timely boost this week as it was announced that Wings Abroad will run a weekly service to the Turkish city of Bodrum over the summer.

It will commence on June 18 and the weekly charter programme will offer holiday packages and seat-only options.
The service means that there will be over 28,000 seats to sun destinations available from Shannon this year, with flights to Lanzarote, Reus, Portugal, Palma and Izmir as well as Bodrum.
Wings Abroad have been operating from Irish airports for a number of years and the new service out of Shannon will offer free child places, group rates and access to exclusive properties and all-inclusive 3-5 star hotels and apartments to suit all types of demand.
Declan Power, aviation business development manager at Shannon said he is confident about the route. “There continues to be a very strong demand from this region and the West of Ireland for sun holidays and we are delighted that Wings Abroad has decided to become part of this very successful and growing market from Shannon Airport. Customers can avoid the inconvenience and arduous trek of travelling from other airports now that over 28,000 seats are available to the sun right on their doorstep. We will be working with Wings Abroad over the coming months to grow and develop this business for future years.”
Acting director of Shannon Airport, Niall McCarthy also welcomed the announcement of the route. “We are actively engaged in growing the business and product offering at Shannon for all our customers, be they Irish residents or incoming tourists and the announcement by Wings Abroad is a welcome boost and a step in the right direction in helping us to achieve this goal.”
Commenting on the announcement, Wings Abroad managing director Tayfun Gokpinar said, “All of us here at Wings Abroad are very excited to be able to add the Shannon to Bodrum route to our summer 2012 schedule. Wings Abroad has a large following in the Shannon and Munster Region and be able to offer our customers there a direct service is fantastic. We introduced the route specifically because our customers and the trade asked us to. Thanks to the success and support from the trade last year, we are now able to invest further in the Irish market-resulting in today’s announcement.”
He said the company had worked well with the airport’s management. “I want to thank Shannon Airport for making this happen. We couldn’t have done it without their assistance.”
