The Clare Community games handwriting competition took place on Saturday in Tulla, while the chess competitions were staged on Sunday in St Flannan’s College, Ennis. Only three teams took part in the U-16 chess competition on Sunday where the co-ordinator was John Cassidy. Shannon recorded a 3-2 win over Ennis St John’s and they will represent Clare in the Munster finals in Tralee on March 30. There were 11 teams in the U-12 competition which was also played in a round robin format. After a total of 25 team matches both Ennis St John’s teams, together with Shannon and Quin-Clooney, contested the semi-finals. Shannon and Quin-Clooney progressed to the final with Shannon winning on a score of 3-2. The two Ennis teams played for the bronze medals with Ennis B coming out on top. RESULTSU-12: 1. This year’s Great Irish Links Challenge will take place on May 7, 8 and 9.  This is the third instalment of the challenge, an initiative put together by Ballybunion, Lahinch and Doonbeg golf clubs.
