Young athletes gather at Lees Road

 

The boys’ cross country sets off at the Clare Community Games Cross Country and Relay finals in Lees Road.

THE Clare Community Games cross country U-10  4 x 250m relays and U-13 1,200m cross country were held at a very sunny Lees Road Sports Complex on Saturday. There was great excitement among the competitors, especially those making their Community Games debut.

The first five boys and five girls will make up the county team to participate in the national finals in Athlone in May. Sixteen areas were represented at the Clare finals.

The girls’ U-10 relay title was won by Ennis St John’s from Silmilebridge/Kilmurry with Miltown Malbay third followed by Quin/Clooney.

The boys’ title went to Ennistymon/Liscannor from Ballynacally/Lissycasey with Sixmilebridge/Kilmurry in third spot followed by Quin/Clooney.

Caoimhie Hogan (Ennistymon/Liscannor) won the girls’ U-13 cross country with Ennis St John’s taking the team title.

Caoilfhionn O’Dea (Kilmurry-Ibrickane) won the boys’ U-13 title and Miltown Malbay captured the team title for the second year in-a-row.

Teams: 1. Miltown Malbay = 19 points; 2. Sixmilebridge/Kilmurry = 74 points; 3. Cooraclare/Cree = 78 points; 4. Derg = 86 points.

Gladys Emerik); 2. Inch Kilmaley Connolly (Caoimhe White, Caoimhe Cahill, Grace Carmody, Ciadh Reynolds); 3. Miltown Malbay (Sarah O’Looney, Ciara Ferguson, Meabh O’Malley, Ellen Flanagan); 4. Quin/Clooney (Rachel Rusk, Ellie McSherry, Róisín O’Mullane, Holly Deegan, Eva Rusk).
Boys’ U-10 relay 4 x 250m: 1. Ennistymon/Liscannor (Brendan Rouine, Liam Cotter, Diarmuid Fahy, Niall Hogan); 2. Ballynacally/Lissycasey (Conor Meaney, Fionn Cotter, Daragh Killeen, Barry Conway); 3. Sixmilebridge/Klimurry (Oisín Brew, Ian Collins, Cillian Fitzpatrick, Tom Forde); 4. Quin/Clooney (Noah McConway, Jack O’Neill, Niall Murphy, Cormac Egan).


Projects

THE project competitions for U-11 and U-13 took place on Wednesday last in Sixmilebridge National School. The co-ordinator was Mary McNamara and the judges were Mark and Aoife Nestor, Siobhan O’Sullivan and Aileen Whyms. The standard of competition was extremely high. The gold medal winners in each age group now go on to represent Clare in the National Finals in Athlone in May.

Tag rugby

THE tag rugby competitions were decided last weekend when Quin-Clooney and Clarecastle-Ballyea took the honours. Quin-Clooney were the only entries for the U-11 grade.
