CRATLOE’S crop of talented young hurlers have no excuse when it comes to fine tuning their skills, thanks to the provision of a new all-weather hurling wall.
The 2012 senior hurling finalists’ first-round defeat in the championship at the hands of Inagh-Kilnamona last weekend will provide players with the added incentive for improving their stick work before their next outing.
A second successive defeat would seriously hinder Cratloe’s chances of emerging from a very difficult group before they could start dreaming of returning to march behind the Tulla Pipe Band on county final day.
Players can take some consolation from the fact the club continues to invest in providing new facilities.
The tightly knit community spirit is illustrated by the fact all the labour for the all-weather wall was provided voluntarily, which has kept costs to a minimum.
A new retaining wall adjoining the €600,000 clubhouse was built last year as a support structure for the building. Seizing this opportunity, club members have now covered the floor space with AstroTurf material.
This ensures that players can play hurling all year round.
The finishing touches to new amenity are expected to be completed this week.
