St Joseph’s, Miltown 2-6
WOLFE Tones completed the Clare Féile double for 2011 when they captured the football crown at the expense of Miltown St Joseph’s at Cusack Park on Sunday. Two weeks earlier, their hurlers won the hurling title at the expense of Clarecastle.
Miltown got off to a great start with a Joe Marrinan goal in the opening minute. The next score came from Wolfe Tones in the sixth minute when Aaron Shanagher pointed from a free. In the eighth minute, a great move from Wolfe Tones ended with Dean Devanney scoring their first goal.
Wolfe Tones then added another goal from Sean Costello in the 10th minute to leave the score at 2-1 to 1-0.
Cormac Murray pointed from play for Miltown but some more excellent moves from Wolfe Tones saw Devanney get their third goal. Aaron Shanagheradded two points in the 14th and 15th minutes as the Shannon side stretched their lead. Both teams exchanged points before half-time when the score stood at 3-4 to 1-2 in favour of Tones.
Miltown opened the scoring in the second half with a point from a free from Sean Malone in the second minute. Aaron Shanagher pointed for Wolfe Tones in the sixth minute but Cormac Murray replied with a like score for Miltown.
Wolfe Tones’ substitute, Evan O’Gorman, added a point in the 11th minute but Miltown replied with a point from Sean Malone. Chris Mongan then goaled for Miltown in the 14th minute before Cormac Murray added a point from a free in the 17th minute to leave just a goal between the sides.
Miltown continued to pile on the pressure in search of an equalising goal but Wolfe Tones defended well and held out to take to the title.
