Wolfe Tones celebrate another U-14 title

Wolfe Tones added the U-14 Division 1 football title to the U-14 hurling and Féile football and hurling titles when they defeated Cooraclare in the final in Kilmihil on Saturday.

Cooraclare got their only score of the first half, a goal in the fifth minute, from Rory McLoone. Wolfe Tones then dominated the remainder of this half, scoring five points in succession through Dean Devanney (3) Ian Collins and Aaron Shanagher before Devanney goaled in the 18th minute. Eoin McAllister and Aaron Shanagher added points to leave the half-time score at 1-8 to 1-0.
Wolfe Tones opened the second half scoring with an Aaron Shanagher point in the second minute. This was followed by a point from play by Evan O’Gorman in the fifth minute. Cooraclare then piled on the pressure, scoring five points without reply from Killian Roche and Jack Morrissey to leave just five points between the sides.
In the ninth minute, Conor Ferns put Evan O’Gorman through to score the Shannon side’s second goal. Wolfe Tones then added two more points from Darragh McMahon to seal a comfortable win.
After the game, Joe Kelly, treasurer of Bord na nÓg Peil, presented the Liam Kelly Memorial Cup to the joint captains of Wolfe Tones, Shane Mullaney and Ross O’Connor.
