Winter League into third week at Kilrush

IN the men’s senior outing at Kilrush last week, the winners were Jimmy McSwiggan, Noel Cooney and Barry Taylor from Tom Clarke, Tom Cleary and Paddy Carmody. Third spot was filled by TJ Lyons, Tom McGrath and Murt Collins.

 

Week three of the Winter League takes place this week. The league runs until Saturday, November 10. After week one, Tom Cleary’s team leads from Anthony Burke’s team, with Pat Shannon’s team in third spot followed by Murt Collins’ team.
The AGM of the men’s and joint committees will take place on December 13 in the clubhouse. Application for committee nominations and motions will be distributed this week.

Ennis
ENNIS seniors held a team of four competition last week when the winners, with 78 points, were John Keane, Michael Neylon, Brendan Colton and Paul Higgins from Pat Cusack, Tommy Purcell, James Ball and Tim Kelly.
In third spot were Frank Landy, Michael Vaughan, Tony Blake and Sean Fitzpatrick, followed by John Vaughan, George Dilger, TJ Kerins and Charlie McEnery.
In fifth spot were Michael Butler, Tom McGrath, Kevin Murray and Tony Coote, followed by Gerry Scanlan, Jim Hennessy, Michael Cummins and PJ Daly.
In a club team-of-three competition the winners were Shane Collins, Diarmuid McMahon and Brian Hassett with 69 net from Don Ryan, Paul McCabe and Peter Quinn on 65 net. In third spot were Mike Butler, Phil Butler. Sinead Hegarty with 65 net.
In the weekend fourball, the winners were Brian O’Gorman and David Rushe with 46 points from Tony Coote and Tim McAllister with 44 points. In third spot were Peader McMahon and Peter Cosgrove with 43 points.
In the mixed foursomes Mike and Phil Butler were the winners with 66 nett from Tom and Mary Glynn with 66.5, with third spot filled by Frank and Aideen Considine with 68.5.

Shannon
IN the Ladies Auburn Lodge Trophy at Shannon, the winners were  Dromoland (Julie Fitzgerald, Catrina O’Neill, Joan Ryan) with 104 points. They had two to spare over Shannon (Deirdre Hennessey, Lynn Kelly, Joan Hoctor) with Woodstock (Margaret Killeen, Mairead Carroll, Teresa Sherlock) in third spot with 98 points.
In the men’s singles last week, Vincent O’Brien won with 45 points from Ed Hickey with 42 points and third spot was filled by Padraig Cahillane with 42 points.
The gross was won by Hugh Heaney with 28 points.

Lahinch
LAST week’s ladies turkey singles competition at Lahinch was won by Marie O’Connor (16) with 1 up. Oonagh Fitzpatrick (21) was second with a similar score followed by Jenny Cagney (15) with 1 down. Anne Vaughan won the gross with 7 down.
Last Thursday’s men’s open singles was won by Jack Ryan (11) with 34 points from Dom Fitzpatrick (6) with a similar score. In third spot with 32 points was Gerry Gough.
Saturday’s singles Stableford competition was won by Robbie Pierse (3) with 39 points from Dermot Morris (3) with 38 points and Mike Kemmy (2) with 37 points. Richard Leonard won the gross with 35 points. 
The ladies singles Stableford competition on Saturday was won by Miriam Hillery (21) with 35 points from Rachel Maher (17) with a similar score.
The winners of the team of four competition on Sunday were John (8), Derek (13) and Kitty Morris (18) and David Mangan (12) with 79 points. They had one to spare over Mark (6) and John Power (10), Kenny Johnston (8) and Michael MacGrath (15).
In a similar competition on the Castle Course the winners with 83 points were PJ O’Neill (12), Fergus Blake (12), Ger Shanahan (13) and Liam Duggan (13).

Woodstock
THE weekly senior’s competition at Woodstock was a modified fourball over 16 holes. The winners with 49 points were Jim McMahon and Eugene Phillips with 49 points from Bobby Burke and Eugene Quinn who had a similar score.
In the open singles on Friday, TJ McNamara (15) was the winner with 43 points from Liam O’Connor (12) who had a similar score.
In the two person scramble on Sunday, the winners were Jason Dormer (8) and Rory Callinan (12).
In the final of the Woodstock Cup singles matchplay, Ollie McNamara beat James McMahon.

East Clare

THE annual club fundraiser was held over the Bank Holiday Weekend and a total of 78 teams representing 26 clubs took part.
The winners with 65 points were Peter and Kevin O’Flanagan and Neil Whelan, followed by Teddy O’Hanlon, John Doyle and Paul McCarthy with a similar score.
In third spot, a point behind, were Christy Healy, John Fahy and Brian Casey. In fourth spot, with 63 points, were Frank O’Meara, Patsy O’Donnell and Ger McNamara followed by Mike Twomey, Jim Lynes and Mick Cullinan also with 63 points.
In sixth spot were Liam Nolan, Joe Fitzgerald and Ger Hogan who also scored  63 points. In seventh spot with 62 points were Tom Browne, Mike Meade and James O’Brien and they were followed by TJ McNamara, Mike Stritch and Enda Donnellan with 62 points.
The ladies prize was won by  Mary Collins, Nancy Starr and Bridget Minogue with 60 points, while the winners of the red ball prize were  Kevin Mannion, Mike Reddan and Marese Mannion with 34 points.
In the men’s senior competition the winners were Martin McInerney, Jackie McHugh and Martin Kelly with 95 points from Brendan Moloney, Conor Tuohy and John Walsh with 88 points. In third were  Michael Drew, Willie Roche and John Brett with 87 points.
In the ladies seniors competition the winners were Connie McKenna, Catherine Murphy and Hilda McHugh from Margaret O’Grady and Bridget Minogue.
This weekend, the men will have a turkey competition.

Spanish Point

PLAYED as a team of 3/4 scramble with one score to count on the par threes, two scores on the par fours and three scores on the par fives, the weekend turkey competition at Shannon was well supported. The winners were Mervin (17), Fergal (15) and Micheál Hehir (13) with 96 points.
The Seniors Open on Tuesday was won by Brendan Reddan (15) with 40 points. An open singles was the format for Bank Holiday Monday and the winner was Eoghan O’Loughlin (3) with 39 points from Gerry Meade (17) with 36 points.
The AGM of the men’s club takes place this Friday in the clubhouse starting at 8pm and all members are asked to attend.
On Saturday and Sunday the turkey competition is a team of 3/4 rumble and timesheets are in the clubhouse.

Portumna
IN the open three-ball waltz competition, the winners were Albert (8) and Kieran Kelly (10) and Alan Hayes (15) with 89 points. They were one clear of Mick Keyes (9) Alan Madden (20) and Lily Greydon (27) with third spot filled by Odran Duice (13), Owen Slattery (16) and Padraic Cahalan (21), who returned 84 points.
Last week’s open competition was won by John Lyons (19) on 42 points from Frank Coyne (12) with 40 points and Dermot O’Brien (12) with 37 points. The gross was won by James P McLoughlin (Scr) with 35 points.
The ladies AGM will take place on Sunday, November 11 at 4pm in the committee room. Notices for the AGM must be made in writing to the secretary at least seven days prior to the meeting date.
The men’s club AGM, originally scheduled for November 6, has been postponed until Monday, November 26.

Gort
IN the 18 hole singles Stableford competition at Gort at the weekend, Gerry Donaldson (11) was the winner with 40 points from Michael Greally (19) with 38 points.
Last week’s open singles was won by John Kelleher (11) with 41 points from Jerry Leahy (9) with 38 points.
This weekend there will be a\ men’s 18 hole fourball.
The AGM will take place in the clubhouse on Monday, November 5 at 8pm.
In the ladies section last week, the winners of the singles competition was Margaret Whelan (28) with 37 points from Róisín Walsh (36) with 36 points and Phil Mulkerrins (26) with 35 points.
In the hallowe’en surprise the winner was Róisín Walsh (36) with 84 points from Siobhan Forde (11) with 81 points and Phil Mulkerrins with a similar score. They were followed by Mary Geoghegan (24) with 80 points, Margaret McMahon (28) with 79 points, Josie Collins (17) with 78 points, Gabrielle Warnock (23) with 77 points,  Patricia Skehill (26) with 76 points, Ann Jordan (33) with 76 points and Teresa Gill (17) with 76 points.
The AGM of the ladies committee will take place on this Sunday in the clubhouse at 6pm.

Corofin

MICHAEL Ryan, Tubber was the winner of the Corofin Society’s October outing to Dromoland on Saturday last.
Brendan McDonagh was second while Geraldine Lynch finished third. The nines were won by Gerry O’Donnell and Martin Flaherty.
The final singles outing of the society for 2012 will be to Ennis on Saturday, November 17.

Pitch and Putt

TOMMY Kelly was the winner of the strokeplay competition at the Clare Road on Sunday. Ger Hanrahan won the gross.
Monday’s Stableford competition was won by Kevin Woods with 101 points from Noel Cuddihy with 96 and Tony Clancy with 92.
