Wins for Ennis swimmers

The Irish Open Short Course National Swim Championships were held in Lisburn last week.

 

Ten young swimmers from the Ennis Swimming and Lifesaving Club competed. The Clare squad members were: Róisín Cahill (13), Rachel O’Brien (14), Rory McEvoy (14), Lily Barrett (15), Hugh McMahon (15), Stephen Rooney (16), Ciara Gleeson (17), Colm McNamara, (17), Bernard Cahill (18) and Patrick Hogan (18). Swimmers swam for their own times within their age groups. Lily Barrett reached two B finals, 200m individual medley (14th) and 200m Breastsroke (14th).

Bernard Cahill, while now training with the high-performance squad in UL, swam for his home club, Ennis. Just returned from the Word Lifesaving Championships in Adelaide, where he earned a gold medal for Ireland and broke the world record in the 100m rescue medley (16-19 years). Bernard won bronze in the 400m individual medley and achieved a personal best. He also took bronze in the 200m freestyle. He made the A final in the 200m individual medley, placing him fifth in Ireland and swam a B final in the 100m freestyle, placing him 10th in Ireland. Patrick Hogan achieved a B final in the 400m individual medley, placing him 16th in Ireland.

Stephen Rooney competed in the B final in the 1,500m freestyle event, achieving 10th in Ireland and Hugh McMahon also competed in the B final, achieving 15th place in Ireland. Rory McEvoy is now placed 17th in Ireland for the 200m backstroke and achieved first reserve. The girls all achieved personal-best times in their events.

 

Munster gala

Ennis club members competed in a Munster grade B gala in Mallow last week.

Tralee gala
Twenty-five young swimmers from the Ennis Swimming and Lifesaving Club will travel to Tralee this weekend to take part in a Grade A gala.
