Winning start for Ennistymon as hurling league gets underway

Ennistymon 2-11   Killanena 0-9

ENNISTYMON hurlers got their 2012 campaign up and running in impressive fashion with an eight-point winning margin over Killanena at the East Clare venue on Monday evening.

Two goals in the first half from new signing Dave Kenneally and points from Cathal Malone (5) and Robbie McDonagh (1) had the North Clare side six points to the good at half-time.
Facing a stiff breeze in the second half. Killanena were first to score with a point but Ennistymon once again took the initiative with points from Malone (3), Tommy Hogan (1) and Dave Kenneally (1), while Killanena mustered a further two.
Best for Ennistymon were Robbie McDonagh, Cathal Malone, Brian McDonagh, Dave Kenneally and Sean Driscoll.

Parteen 4-10   Ogonnelloe 2-14

FOUR first-half goals helped Parteen to victory over Ogonnelloe in their Division 2 league tie at Parteen on  Monday.
The goalscorers for the winners were Joe and Padraic O’Connor, Alan Murnane (penalty) and David Small.
Ogonnelloe’s goalscorers were Rory Skelly and substitute Peter O’Brien.

Scariff 2-13   Ruan 0-17

SCARIFF made a winning start to their campaign to get back into the Clare Champion Cup when they defeated Ruan in the new Division 2 league.
In a tie played at Scariff on Monday evening, Ruan had the better of the first-half exchanges and led 0-13 to 1-6 at the break, the Scariff goal coming from Austin Madden.
Another Madden goal levelled the game early in the final quarter and while Ruan went back in front, Scariff finished strongly with points from Conor McNamara, Ross Horan and Mark Mulvihill to seal a narrow win.

Sixmilebridge 1-15   Crusheen 0-5

A CONTRIBUTION of 1-9 from Thomas Liddy helped Sixmilebridge to a comfortable win over Crusheen in the Division 2 league tie played on Sunday. The winners were on top in the second half when they outscored their opponents by 1-11 to 0-1.
The first half was a low-scoring affair, with both sides deadlocked at 0-4 each at the break.
Crusheen forward Colin Vaughan made his intermediate and senior competitive debuts for the club in the space of 24 hours at the weekend.
