Winning start for Ballyea

BALLYEA got their Minor A Hurling Championship campaign off to a good start when they accounted for Éire Óg at the Éire Óg grounds last Friday evening.

It didn’t take the visitors long to get going, scoring 1-2 in the first 10 minutes, with the goal coming from Martin O’Leary. A second goal from Niall Deasy and points from Tony Kelly helped Ballyea build up an interval lead of 2-9 to 1-4.
The Ballyea men continued to hold the upperhand in the second half with further points from Lee Brady, who was switched to corner-forward and Tony Kelly, which helped their side to go on and record a fairly comfortable victory.
The winners had good displays from Tony Kelly, Jack Browne, Gearóid O’Connell, Eoin Donnellan and Stan Lineen in the second half.

Sixmilebridge 6-17
Clonlara 1-13

SIXMILEBRIDGE minor hurlers scored a comprehensive win over Clonlara on Friday evening.
In a match played at Clonlara, it was the ’Bridge who held the lead at half-time on a score of 4-9 to 1-5. They extended this lead in the second half to record the victory.
The goalscorers for last year’s beaten finalists were Conor Deasy (2), Jamie Shanahan, Sean Lynch, David Murphy and Alex Morey.

In the other game in the race for the A title, holders Newmarket played a draw with rivals Clarecastle.
The final score was 1-14 for Newmarket to Clarecastle’s 3-8.

Minor B Championship

Inagh-Kilnamona 2-14
Broadford 1-8

INAGH-Kilnamona recorded a merited win over Broadford in their minor B championship match played in poor conditions in Inagh on Friday evening.
The home side started the stronger and scored a first-half goal from James O’Halloran. Inagh-Kilnamona led at the break on a score of 1-6 to 0-4.
The second half started with both sides matching each other’s scores but when James McConigley struck for Inagh-Kilnamona’s second goal, this all but finished Broadford’s challenge, even though they did pull a goal back.
Best for the winners were James O’Halloran, Cathal McConigley and Patrick Healy.

 

Scariff-Ogonnelloe-Whitegate 4-11
Kilmaley 2-11

THE East Clare amalgamation of Scariff-Ogonnelloe-Whitegate got their minor campaign off to a great start when they travelled to and beat a fancied Kilmaley side on Friday evening.
Meelick had a six-point win over their neighbours Parteen, winning on a scoreline of 1-16 to 0-13, while Smith O’Brien’s were 2-13 to 0-7 winners over Corofin.
