West Clare Colleges in control

West Clare Colleges 4-9   Waterford Colleges 1-8

West Clare Colleges progressed to Round Two in the Frewan Cup, (Munster Colleges Junior A Football Championship, U-16 ½) where they will meet either Tralee CBS or Killorglin. they proved too strong for Waterford Colleges at Lattin in Tipperary on Wednesday.

The winners laid the foundations for this win in the opening half when they built up a two-point lead playing against the wind, 0-5 to 0-3.

In the second half they piled on the pressure and goals from Liam Madigan, David Egan, Shane O’Connor and Pierce Lillis sealed their place in the next round.

Impressive for the winners on the day were Gary McMahon, Colm Pyne, Pierce Lillis, David Egan and Liam Madigan.

Upcoming fixtures

NewcastleWest is the venue for the meeting of St Flannans with Chorcha Dhuibhne in the Frewan Cup this Friday at 1.30pm.

In the Junior C Football Championship (Corn na Carraige), St Pat’s, Shannon, will play Hazelwood College, Limerick, at Rathkeale, also at 1.30pm.

In the White Cup, Munster Colleges U-15A hurling, St Flannan’s will travel to Bansha on Monday to play Blackwater Community School from Waterford. The winners will be in action again a few days later, playing St Caimin’s from Shannon in round two on Friday.

In the U-15B hurling Corn an Phiarsaigh), St Joseph’s Tulla will play Coláiste an Spioraid Naoimh, Bishopstown, also on Monday, at a venue to be confirmed.

On Thursday next, Rice College Ennis will face St Anne’s, Killaloe, at Ogonnelloe in the U-15C championship (Corn Solo).

On Wednesday next, Ennistymon and Kilkee will meet at Miltown in the Corn na Carraige (U-16 ½ C football).
On March 1, Rice College and Mary Immaculate, Lisdoonvarna, will meet in U-15C football at Corofin.
