Weekend launch of Miltown GAA Club history

Car Tourismo Banner

FOLLOWING the 7pm Clare v Galway senior football challenge game in Miltown Malbay on Saturday, a detailed GAA history of St Joseph’s, Miltown will be launched in the local community centre. The book will detail how the club won 12 senior football championships, having appeared in 27 senior finals. The club has also won 12 minor championships.

“There are a lot of people in Miltown who won a lot of juvenile championships in the 1950s and U-12s in the 1970s. There are a lot of them gone and a lot of them not involved in football. But we figured that we would use it as an opportunity to organise a Gathering event this year and bring them all back together,” explained John Reidy, the driving force behind the book.

The book will be launched on Saturday night by Canon Seamus Mullen, former president of St Flannan’s College.
“The book covers the history of the club since 1888. Miltown won the first minor championship played in Clare in 1924. They also won it in 1926 and 1927. Georgie Comerford was on all those teams and played with the Clare minors in 1929 when they won the All-Ireland,” John added.
