‘We would have to be happy overall with the point’ – Lohan

Another physically challenging encounter for the Clare manager to digest which saw his side, in his opinion, gain a point with the former Clare captain acknowledging that Wexford might feel it was an opportunity lost as they certainly were the better team for large spells.
“It was a very tough physical game which we expected as this is always a really hard place to come. To be honest I don’t know whether Wexford will be happy with the draw but we have to be. Considering our performance in that first half we would have to be happy overall with the point. We were completely outfought in that entire first thirty five and Wexford won almost every single breaking ball. They dominated us physically and we weren’t happy at all with our performance. We spoke about it at the break and in fairness we did regroup.” Facing into the elements was always going to be challenging and we changed things up at the break and had a massive impact from our bench which is a positive with our work rate being much higher throughout that second half.”
Lohan was a bit puzzled with some of the decisions and didn’t really want to be drawn on it but did say how it’s not an easy job for officials and managers alike.
“We all watched the game so that’s all that needs to be said on that but in fairness referees and officials have really tough jobs to do but so do the managers” he quipped.
With two Munster League and now three National League games played the management team have given plenty of players opportunities to put their hand up for a starting jersey and as we get ever closer to Championship fare Lohan is relatively pleased with the progress.
“We’d be happy enough with our position in the table especially when you factor in that two of our three games have been away from home. Players are getting plenty game time which is what we want. We want to consistently find players that can represent the county and wear that jersey. Today I was delighted for Cian Broderick. He had a very composed afternoon and he’s been working really hard. He fully deserved his opportunity and sure it was a great save altogether.”
