Upgrade work for Connaught Road Estate

Upgrade work is expected to begin in the next couple of weeks on the Connaught Road and in the Connaught Road Estate, which has been described locally as “long overdue”.

The works in Scariff will include renovations to the council-owned properties in the form of upgrading roofs, replacing windows, doors and insulation works.
The works went to tender recently and the council has received prices for the project, which is expected to start in the next few weeks. Councillor Joe Cooney said, “A substantial amount of the work will have to be completed before Christmas. All the council-owned houses are all being upgraded, which is well overdue, these houses were built over 40 years ago and conditions have been very poor. There is also a good bit of groundwork that will be carried out to footpaths, walls as well as drainage works, and this will put an end to a lot of problems for people there,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Connaught Road is also to benefit from upgrade works, with 500 to 600 metres of roadworks at the estate to be carried out.
“That road has been in a very bad condition for a long number of years, with ongoing sewage works and roadworks. A full upgrade from the Connaught Road Estate of 500 to 600 metres past the estate out from town and works to the footpaths are very welcome and it is good to see the likes of this coming to East Clare,” Councillor Cooney concluded.
