FOR the two emerging clubs, Parteen and Cratloe, last Thursday evening in Doonass pitch in Clonlara was probably the most important game they have played. The last time Cratloe played camogie was 1963 and Parteen are recent additions to competitive action.
Neither team allowed the wet weather conditions to dampen their spirits. In a very evenly contested opening quarter, Cratloe’s Jade McMahon and Parteen’s Nicky Walsh excelled in defence for their respective sides, so scores were difficult to come by.
It wasn’t until the 21st minute that Parteen finally managed to grab the opening goal of the game, when Emily Hill collected from Walsh and finished to the net.
Tara Mannix added 1-1 for Parteen from frees. Cratloe battled hard and were unlucky not to score in the opening half. A third goal from Parteen early in the second half may have appeared to signal game over but Cratloe’s Michela Arthur stopped the Parteen onslaught and hit 1-3 with no reply.
However, this wasn’t to be Cratloe’s evening as Parteen rallied and, with a further 2-2 to their tally, ran out winners.

SIXMILEBRIDGE advanced to the final of the U-13 championship after a hard-fought and tense encounter with Clooney/Quin at Newmarket last Thursday evening. It was a cold windy evening and the miserable weather had a big impact on the game.
The ’Bridge elected to play with the aid of a very strong wind in the first half and had several scoring chances but were unable to take them, due to some very good defending from Clooney-Quin.
The deadlock was finally broken when Sarah Loughnane scrambled the ball over the line for the opening goal for the ’Bridge. This was added to a few minutes later when Emma Kennedy’s shot from well out the field found its way into the Clooney net.
Megan Griffin scored a point to leave the score 2-1 to 0-0 in favour of the ’Bridge girls at half-time. In the second half, with the wind at their back, Clooney-Quin went all out to win and piled the pressure on the Sixmilebridge goal. The ’Bridge, to their credit, defended well. The final score was 2-1 to 0-0 to Sixmilebridge but it was really a very close match throughout.

THE U-13C semi-final between Broadford and Bodyke was played in Broadford on Thursday evening last. The strong wind and rain did not dampen the hard-fought battle.
Laura O’Connell opened Broadford’s account with a goal, followed by points from Hannah Mason and Annalee Marsh. Bodyke’s backline was under a lot of pressure and great saves by Ava Quigley and clearances by Rachel Minogue saw the first half finish with Broadford ahead, 1-2 to 0-0.
Playing with a strong breeze in the second half, Bodyke’s Ciara Doyle, Sara Minogue and Amber Meskell fought hard but the opposition proved too strong. Broadford piled on the pressure in the second half and two goals from Laura O’Connell and a point from Niamh Powell sealed the win.
