Twelve Clare sides in race for Munster schools honours

Car Tourismo Banner

Twelve Clare sides remain in the hunt for Munster Post-Primary Schools honours in eleven different championship races.

With the Junior (Under 16.5) Football and Under 15 Hurling Championships still to come in the new year, it’s also straight knock-out from here on in for the current candidates in the Under 19 Hurling and Football Championships, Junior Hurling and Under 15 Football competitions.

St John Bosco Community College Kildysart take top billing as they impressively contest semi-finals against Waterford opposition in both codes over the next ten days.

First up are their junior hurlers who take on St Paul’s Community College Waterford next Tuesday while six days later it the turn of the Under 15 footballers against Comeragh College.

The rest of the Banner provincial hopefuls are at senior level where in football, St Flannan’s (A), CBS Ennistymon (B), Rice College (C), St Anne’s Killaloe and St Joseph’s Spanish Point (D) along with St Michael’s Kilmihil and St Pat’s Shannon (E) are still vying for honours albeit that all but CBS Ennistymon are scheduled to play another round before the Christmas holidays.

The North Clare school are also safely through to the last eight of the Under 19C Hurling Championship on Wednesday, January 11th alongside Scariff Community College.

However, Rice College still have a final group match to come along with a football equivalent before they can start the countdown to Santa in earnest.

Throw in Ardscoil Ris’ 18 strong Clare contingent in this Dr. Harty Cup Quarter-finals in January and hopes are high that the Banner can emulate last year’s hugely encouraging haul of eight Munster crowns along with an All-Ireland Senior A Hurling triumph for Ardscoil.
