Tulla United upset the champions

Tulla United A 3   Newmarket Celtic A 1

TULLA United A completed a good weekend for the club’s junior teams when they scored a merited win over the premier league champions.

Newmarket took the lead after half an hour when Alan Brigdale, a former Tulla player, scored from 25 yards after winning possession in his own half.
From the kick-off, Donnacda McNamara and Sunny Jay combined to put John Brigdale, a brother of Newmarket’s scorer Alan, through and he was taken down in the area. Niall Whelan scored the penalty to level the tie and this was the position at half-time.
In was nip and tuck until 10 minutes from the end when Tulla got the breakthrough. A good move in midfield saw Tommy McKeown pass to John Brigdale who put substitute Colin Nelson through and he scored to give the home side the lead.
Newmarket pushed forward in search of an equaliser but three minutes from the end in a move down the left, Trevor Corbett combined with Donnacda McNamara to put Darragh Corry through and he sealed it with his side’s third goal.
Shane Mason was outstanding for the winners at right-back, particularly in thwarting the threat of Alan Brigdale in the second half.
