Tulla-Bodyke through to U-16B final

Tulla/Bodyke 1-12   Clarecastle 1-9

TULLA/Bodyke advanced to the final of the U-16B championship with a hard-earned victory over Clarecastle in this semi-final played in Sixmilebridge on Sunday.

In good conditions for hurling, Clarecastle were two points up after 10 minutes with the excellent wing-forward Michael McDermott accounting for both scores. Between the 11th and 20th minutes, Tulla-Bodyke had three points, one from Matthew Culloo and two from Colin Corbett, who was causing a major problem for the Magpies’ backs. McDermott responded with two points to restore the advantage to Clarecastle.

Corbett, now on the 40’, was a real danger and he goaled in the 25th minute to give the amalgamation the edge. Points were swapped between Adam Howard and Paul Dolan and Corbett and Liam Doyle to leave the half-time score at 1-6 to 0-6 in favour of the combination.

The Magpies had the first score of the second half when McDermott pointed after eight minutes. However, three points in five minutes, all by Corbett, put the East Clare men in the driving seat. Clarecastle were not beaten yet, however, and an excellent point by Cian Crimmins and a goal by Evan Wiley after a penalty save ensured an exciting finish. Tulla/Bodyke keeper Seamus Quigley played a key role with a string of great clearances. With Clarecastle in attack, Tulla/Bodyke broke up field to get the final two points, one each from Corbett and Doyle, to secure a final spot. Tulla/Bodyke will now play the winners of Ballyea and Crusheen/Tubber in the final.
