Tipp’s goal-getting ability

TIPPERARY manager Declan Ryan felt his side’s ability to rattle the Clare net was one of the main reasons why his team qualified for the Munster final on July 10 against Waterford. TIPPERARY manager Declan Ryan felt his side’s ability to rattle the Clare net was one of the main reasons why his team qualified for the Munster final on July 10 against Waterford.
“Our ability to get goals stood to us again. It would have been very bleak for us at half-time only for the goals we got in the first half. I think we showed a lot of composure, even though we were down and we stuck to our plan and I think the work rate was very good,” he said.
“I think overall, we’re just delighted to get through today. It was a slippery one for us. Clare have done a lot of great work underage in recent years and were unlucky not to win the minor All-Ireland last year. They won the U-21 the year before so they’re obviously a coming force,” the former Tipperary centre-forward added.
Unlike Clare, Tipperary club hurlers will be playing championship this coming weekend. Clare clubs won’t play championship again until the weekend of August 6.
“There’s club championship on next weekend,” Declan Ryan confirmed. “These guys play at a fairly high level and the intensity is fairly good even at club level, so we’re hoping that they’ll come through next weekend without injury,” he said.
Ryan also maintained that Tipperary’s use of their full complement of five substitutes helped them to ease beyond Clare.
“We’ve a strong panel. All the guys that are on the panel have trained very hard and they got their chance today. We’re delighted to have options on the bench,” he said.
“We’re after having two good battles. The Munster final will be a huge battle as well. There’s no doubt about that. Waterford will be coming defending their Munster crown but this is why the guys train so hard; for days like today,” the Tipperary manager concluded.
