Tipperary on top in U-16A final

Tipperary 2-15
Clare 3-3

Clare’s U-16A camogie team lost out to Tipperary in the Munster final on Saturday evening in The Ragg.
The opening quarter was a low scoring affair with both sides registering a point each, however Tipperary struck for two goals in the 19th and 21st minutes.
Clare were awarded a penalty in the 26th minute for a foul on Niki Kaiser as she bore down on the Tipperary goal and Kate O’Gorman found the net with the resultant effort. Tipperary had another point just before half time to bring the score to Clare 1-1, Tipperary 2-4 at the mid point.
Tipperary added four points to their tally from the restart, while Clare were not as lucky at the other end, missing out on two goal opportunities, with Kaiser converting a 45’ from one of those chances. Kate O’Gorman struck for two Clare goals in the 47th and 49th minutes but Tipperary replied with another three points. Orla Devitt pointed Clare’s last score in the 57th minute leaving Tipp with the final two points of the game and the Munster title to add to their All-Ireland crown.
Manager Francis Browne, while disappointed with the result, was very proud of the performance of the Clare girls. “We knew coming down to the Ragg to play the All-Ireland champions was never going to be easy but our girls gave it their all.
“Tipperary’s two early goals put us on the backfoot but these girls never let up. They showed great character and battled right to the final whistle. With girls of this calibre coming through the ranks, Clare camogie is in good shape for the future,” he commented after the game.
