Three gold in National Development Games


The National Development Games and Combined Events were held in Tullamore where three Clare athletes captured gold, finishing off their track season on a high.

Niamh Conlon (Kilmihil) won gold in the U-12 60m when winning in 8.93 and she captured another national title in the long jump with a leap of 3.99m.

Two St Mary’s athletes, Darragh Miniter and his brother, Joseph, were in winning form. Darragh won gold in the boys U-13 shot putt with a throw of 10.61m while  Joseph won silver in the U-15 shot putt and finished fourth in the long jump.

Emily Barry (Marian) in the girls U-14 100m, gave one her best performances in these championships when winning the gold medal in 14.21 with Patrick O’Rourke (Kilmurry Ibrickane-North Clare), in the boys U-15s winning a bronze medal with a time of 2.23.

The national combined juvenile, senior and masters events were also held in Tullamore with David Courtney (Ennis Track), competing in the masters O-50 quadrathlon. Over four events he was beaten by six points for the national title by Peader McGing, Dundrum South Dublin. Cliodhna Blake, St John’s, finished fourth in the U-16 juvenile pentathlon.

Masters men O-50 quadrathlon:
2. David Courtney, Ennis Track – 100m (13.95), long jump (4.59m), shot putt (10.33m) 1,500m (6.06:50) = 1368pts.
Girls U-16 pentathlon: 4. Cliodhna Blake St John’s – 80m hurdles (13.29), high jump (1.45m), shot putt (7.13m), long jump (4.55m), 800m (2.47:40) = 2483pts.

U-14 100m: 1. Emily Barry, Marian (14.21).
Boys
U-13 shot putt:
1. Darragh Miniter, St Mary’s (10.61m).
U-15 800m: 2. Patrick O’Rourke, Kilmurry Ibrickane/North Clare (2.23:42). Shot putt: 2. Joseph Miniter, St Mary’s (8.09m). Long jump: 4. Joseph Miniter, St Mary’s (4.17m).
