Three competitions conclude

CLARE Community Games had three competitions completed over the past week, the U-12 girls’ Gaelic Football and the inaugural competitions in both throwball rounders mixed U-11 and spikeball for both boys and girls. The throwball was held in Kilmihil Secondary School, co-ordinated by David O’Brien. The spikeball was held in Coláiste Muire, Ennis.

 

Cooraclare-Cree emerged as winners of the throwball competition. The members of the winning team are Brian McNamara, Pádraig Browne, Michael O’Connell, Gary Donnellan, Sean Browne, Sinéad Lillis, Niamh Conlon, Saskia Morrissey, Shauna O’Gorman and Emily Culligan.

Quin-Clooney were second and their team members are Callum Hassett, Shane Harrison, John Conneally, Sean Coughlan, Noah McConway, Marc Notre, Rachel Rusk, Cliodhna Ryan, Emma Considine, Lauren Slattery, Ella Taylor and Gillian Hayes.

In spikeball, Doora-Barefield were the winners and the team members are Adam L’Estrange, Michael Reid, Cullen McCabe, Evan Twomey, Cian McDonough, Adam Connolly and Nathan Stackpoole.

Killaloe won the silver medals and the team members are Anthony Seymour, Adam Geraghty, Michael Gough, Eanna McNamara, John Power, Eoin Power, Evan Connolly and Dean Mulqueen.

Doora-Barefield also won the girls’ competition with Grace Copley, Eanna O’Loughlin, Emer Hanrahan, Hannah Meaney, Shona Power, Mia Norton, Caelinn Crowley and Emma Purcell,

Quin/Clooney were second with Mary Conneally, Anna Corry, Michelle Meere, Rachel Begg, Ciara O’Reilly, Ellie Rochford, Hannah Conneally, Shona Hall, Clara De Sousa and Rachel Begg.

Killaloe with Maria Scanlan, Anna McInerney, Rachel Nolan, Elisha Monaghan, Nicola Conway, Kate O’Mahoney, Sarah Collins, Lydia Hayes and Jade Collier won the bronze medals.

Gaelic Football

THE Gaelic Football competition for girls’ U-12 were held on recently in Lissycasey in glorious sunshine. It was co-ordinated by county vice-chairman Kieran Harvey. The standard of competition was very high with Doora/Barefield coming out on top. The gold medal winners now go forward to represent Clare in the Munster finals in Tralee.

The members of the winning Doora/Barefield team are Anna Nagle, Muirne Ní Chonall, Gail Norton, Meadhbh O’Connor, Muireann Collins, Muireann Byrne, Aoibhinn O’Loughlin, Katie McDermott, Mairéad Mescall, Treasa McAuliffe, Sophie Roughan, Súin McNamara, Emily Herbert, Saidhnh O’Brien, Shauna Murphy, Eimear O’Loughlin, Sinéad Clancy, Chaoilfhionn Ní Chonail, Amelia O’Toole and Róisín Dixon.

Clarecastle-Ballyea won the silver medals and their team members were Aoibhinn Donnelly, Rachel Hartigan, Neasa Collins, Laura Mullen, Orla Commons, Ciara O’Dell, Emma O’Donoghue, Derbhla McMahon, Kelsey Farmer, Aoife McDonnell, Cliodhna Spriggs, Aoibhinn O’Donoghue, Sarah McNamara, Annie McEldowney, Abbie Moloney, Lily Price, Emma O’Brien, Moya Sheehan, Laura Carmody and Hazel Collins.

Ballynacally/Lissycasey won the bronze medals with Ava Cotter, Lisa Hill, Mary Culligan, Gráinne Ryan, Ellen Griffin, Savina Browne, Áine Garry, Holly Garry, Siobhán Kelly, Michelle Carrig, Megan Keane, Bethan Eustace, Róisín Ní Cheallaigh, Emma Keating, Leanne Conway, Clodagh Herlihy and Molly McCarthy.

Kilmihil captured the fourth place medals and their team members are Rachel Normoyle, Megan Hehir, Abigail Anglim, Clodagh Quinlivan, Megan Rigney-Downes, Jade Flaherty, Emily Anglim, Alana Browne, Zoey Ryan, Aoife McNamara, Katie Mullen, Rachel Keating, Allyson Egan, Niamh Ryan, Rachel Pender, Emer Finucane, Aoife Crowley, Jennifer Collins, Edel McNamara and Aoibhinn Copeland.

Hardcourt Tennis

ENNIS St John’s will represent Clare in hard court tennis U-13 having got through the competition without opposition. The team members are Eunan Gavin, Scott O’Grady, Cillian O’Riordan, Ronan Foley, Darren O’Brien, Edith Kearney, Shauna Kearney, Rhona Kearney and Cathriona Ní Rhiordan.

Variety

SIXMILEBRIDGE/Kilmurry were the only entrants for the county variety final and they will represent Clare in the provincial finals. The group members are Edward Shannon, Callum Maxwell, Thomas Flack, Eimear Wolf, Sarah Barry, Laura Whitty, Clodagh Quinn, Jennifer Rafferty, Eile Ní Lionain, Sinéad Cahill, Sarah Merriman, Katelyn Harrington, Kim Stephen and Melissa Morey.

County athletic finals

THE county athletic finals will take place on Sunday, June 23 in Lees Road, Ennis.  Prior to the finals, there will be a parade of all the athletes. The parade will be held on the athletic track and athletes should assemble at the finish line located towards the discus cage at 11am. Four managers may accompany them.

The parade will move off at 11.30am and proceed around the track followed by the official opening ceremony. All areas are requested to participate in the parade and should have a suitable banner denoting their area, which afterwards can be placed in their designated area, which has been allocated to them, outside the track. Athletic events will start with the U-10 relays at 12.30pm.

The following cups will be presented at the official opening ceremony: Shannon Development Cup, best presented area; the Dan O’Donoghue Memorial Trophy, runner-up best presented area; The Meakins Family Shield, third best presented area; the O’Sullivan Family Shield, best presented small area and The Mascot Shield,best mascot in the parade.

Munster finals

THE Munster Community Games finals will be held on Saturday, June 29 in Tralee. Clare will have teams in basketball, camogie, futsal, Gaelic football, hard court tennis, hurling, throwball, rounders, skittles, soccer and spikeball.

June 19: Marathon in Kilmurry McMahon.
June 23: County Athletics Finals in Lees Road, Ennis.
June 29: Munster Community Games Finals in Tralee, County Kerry.
September 16: Closing date to submit HSE Community Games Healthy Events.
October 18: All-Star dance.
