Third time lucky for Meehans

It was third time lucky for father and son, Gerry and Sean Meehan, Kiskeam, County Cork, at the Millstreet coursing meeting last Saturday when their Oilean Smile won the Oaks Trial Stake final (32).
Beaten earlier in the Mitchelstown and Doon finals, the daughter of Bexhill Eoin-Beautiful Smile won the Millstreet final by four lengths when beating Early Move (Bexhill Eoin- Ballymore Trick), owned by the DC syndicate from Kildare.
Oilean Smile is trained by Sixmilebridge native, Gerry Meehan for his son, Sean. In the Millstreet quarter-finals they beat Woodpark Diva, owned by Johnny Quinn, Woodpark, Newmarket-on-Fergus, by five lengths and had three lengths on Starofthelaune in the semi-final.
At the same meeting, where Tony Reddan was judge, Cool Storm won his second cup of the season for his Castleisland owners. He had already won the cup at the Tradaree meeting.
The race is now on in earnest for the final places in the Classics Club Champion Stakes at the national meeting. Kyle Ranger, last season’s Boylesports.com Derby runner-up, picked up more valuable points at Galballyon on Monday to jump in front of Windfarm Eiscir in the table of qualifiers. Windfarm Eiscir is placed eight with eight points but with more winnings than Dresden Call, Lochbo Blake, Whitestone Rai, Kyle Tanyard and Razor Ash, who also have accumulated eight points.
Both Windfarm Eiscir and Whitestone Rai are entered for the Premier Cup at Templetuohy next weekend and they will clash in the second round if they get over their first-round hurldes. Also in the line up are the Sixmilebridge-owned Luath Legend and Delightful Mark, as well as Drimeen Mariner.
