The sisters Siún launch their debut CD

Corofin sisters, Siobhán and Úna Hogan recently released their debut album under the name Siún at Bofey Quinns where Paddy Hynes launched the CD.
Entitled Blue Eyed Rascal, this is the first time the duo have recorded an album. Úna and Siobhan are graduates of the Irish Music course at the University of Limerick and when they decided to record the album they needed a name. So they came up with the name Siún as it was the first two letters of each of the sisters’ names.
Together they play the flute, uilleann pipes, fiddle and tin whistle and speaking about the album, Siobhán explained that the name of the album is taken from one of the set dances on the CD.
“Úna is 11 months younger than me so we’re Irish twins. We have been playing together for a long time and we are playing about 15 years.
“We were thinking about doing an album and at the beginning of last year we decided to make a recording so we took some time planning what tunes we would have and then spent three months recording it.
“We recorded it in Martin O’Malley’s Malbay Studios in Miltown Malbay. The album has a selection of some of our favourite tunes,” she said.
There was a great turn out for the launch night, held in Corofin on Saturday night and up to 25 singers and musicians joined them for a session at Bofey Quinns. The duo will also have a CD launch night at the forthcoming Micho Russell festival which takes place in Doolin on February 24 next. This launch night will take place at the Russell Centre at 8pm.
