The ’Champion says ‘get involved’

THE Clare Champion is lending full support to Get Involved, a community initiative that will be the central theme for Local Newspaper Week ’13.

Fifty-one RNPAI/ NNI L&R titles are champions/coordinators of community projects that will create a sense of pride and motivation within each newspaper’s catchment area.

Before the formal launch of the initiative, The Clare Champion will identify a project within our readership area that, with local community action, can transform the environment/social/business activity of the locality.

To help identify a project, The Clare Champion will be publishing an advertisement next week, alerting the public as to how they can “get involved.” Respondent projects will be judged by a local panel under the chairmanship of a representative of the ’Champion.

Identification of projects will be made by April 26 and the selected project, which will have to be completed by August 1, must demonstrate a sustainable element once completed.

The Clare Champion will also promote it for the national competition title and will assist the project in identifying appropriate partners to completion stage.

Identified projects will be filmed before and after. Projects could be in the area of community gardens, river and amenity restoration and maintenance, heritage projects or social schemes.

Award-winning architect and well-known TV presenter, Duncan Stewart will chair the judging process and will be assisted by judges from provincial regions.

The winners will be announced in September and there will be full coverage of awards and outcomes in the Local Newspaper Week supplement in October.
