The calm before the storm in county games


IT was a quiet weekend for Clare Community Games with no county competitions taking place.
The next competitions will be on Saturday, April 30 and Sunday, May 1. All areas are reminded that they should now be holding their area athletic finals to select competitors for the county athletic finals which will be staged on Sunday, June 26 at Lees Road. 
The closing date for entries for the athletics finals is Friday, May 20 and all entries must go to Mary Lenihan, 8 Clonmoney Grove, Crusheen.
As this is the 40th anniversary of Clare Community Games, all areas are asked to make a special effort to make this a special occasion.
The following closing dates apply:
Friday, April 15 for skittles, judo and cycling; Friday, April 22, for hurling;
Friday, April 29 for Gaelic football, camogie, volleyball, rounders;
Friday, May 6 for variety, swimming and outdoor soccer; Friday, May 20 for pitch and putt; Friday, May 27 for gymnastics, athletics.
The following competition dates apply:
Saturday, April 30 and Sunday, May 1: Futsal at St Flannan’s College at 10am;
Friday, May 6: cycling at Quin National School at 7pm; Saturday, May 7: tag rugby at St Flannan’s College at 11am; Friday, May 13: Gaelic football U-12 at Lissycasey at 6pm; Saturday, May 14: Gaelic football U-10 at St Flannan’s at 10am; Sunday, May 15: hurling at St Flannan’s at 10am and camogie at St Flannan’s at 10am; Friday, May 20: swimming finals at Ennis pool at 5pm and variety at Sixmilebridge GAA hall at 7pm; Saturday, May 28 and Sunday, May 29: soccer finals; Saturday, June 4: pitch and putt at the Clare Road in Ennis at 9.30am; Sunday, June 12: Gymnastics at the Ennis Gymnastics Club; Wednesday, June 22: marathon at Kilmurry McMahon; Sunday June 26: county athletics finals at Lees Road; Saturday, July 9: Munster finals at UL.

Derg swimming finals

THE Derg Area swimming finals took place recently in the Lakeside Hotel, Killaloe. Children and teenagers from the parishes of Bodyke, Tuamgraney, Ogonnelloe and Scariff were invited to partake. For the second year running, the Derg area will to be sending a swim team to Ennis for the county finals.
The results are:
U-8 girls’ freestyle: 1. Grace Stewart (Ogonnelloe); 2. Sadbh McCrath (Ogonnelloe).
U-8 boys’ freestyle: 1. Tiernan Nijs (Tuangraney); 2. Sean Tracey (Scariff).
U-10 girls’ freestyle: 1. Ciara Tracey (Scariff); 2. Liadain Harold (Ogonnelloe).
U-10 boys’ freestyle: 1. Tadgh O’Mara (Ogonnelloe); 2. Seamus McCaul (Tuamgraney).
U-12 girls’ freestyle: 1. Alex Stewart (Ogonnelloe); 2. Rebecca Cosgrave (Ogonnelloe).
U-14 boys’ freestyle: Joint 1. Daniel Tracey (Scariff); Joint 1. Colm Hart (Ogonnelloe).
U-14 girls’ freestyle; 1. Sorcha O Donnell (Scariff); Rachel O’Connell (Ogonnelloe).
U-16 boys’ freestyle: 1. Luke Dillon (Ogonnelloe).
