Task force report to be launched on Scattery Island

THE long-awaited West Clare Economic Task Force report is due to be unveiled on Scattery Island on Wednesday, June 23, when Minister for Tourism, Culture and Sport Mary Hanafin may attend.

At Monday’s Kilrush Electoral Area meeting in the Vandeleur Walled Gardens, John Keogh of Shannon Development said that 120 initial business and job-creation ideas have been whittled down to six. However, John Keogh, who is joined on the West Clare Economic Task Force sub-committee by Councillor Christy Curtin and Kilrush town manager Nora Kaye, didn’t give any indication as to the nature of the six ideas.
He did, however, describe them as “relevant and achievable”.
Back in January, at an electoral area meeting in Labasheeda, John Keogh hinted that there were big plans in the offing but that he couldn’t reveal what they were.
“There are a number of things that we can’t talk about at the moment, that we’re working on,” he said at the time.
A number of what were termed “idea-generating workshops” have been held in the interim in an effort to help generate employment opportunities in West Clare.
