Nursing home ‘non-compliant’ on some issues

A NURSING home in South-East Clare was found to be non-compliant with some regulations in an unannounced inspection at the facility recently. In a report published on Tuesday, inspectors from the Health, Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) detailed “issues of significant concern” at the Athlunkard House Nursing Home in Westbury. HIQA carried out the inspection on April 21 as a follow-up to an inspection that took place in January, when 19 issues were identified that needed to be addressed. Inspectors found that seven of these had been fully dealt with, seven others were partially addressed and the remaining five, relating to governance and management, restraint management and medication management were not satisfactorily dealt with. While the inspectors noted that many of the issues relating to medication management identified during the January inspection had been addressed, there were “further issues of significant concern during this inspection with regard to the documentation of medicines administered in the centre”. Council making ‘steady progress’ on housing take-overs

Clare County Council has taken in charge 29 housing developments comprising hundreds of residential and other properties throughout the county since the beginning of 2013. The council has confirmed it  is making “steady progress” in addressing difficulties at 180 developments around Clare brought about through the collapse of many companies in the building sector. In 2013, a total of 14 developments were formally taken in charge by the local authority, while an additional 15 developments have been fully taking in charge during 2014. “Each taking in charge involves a complex process culminating in a public consultation and a resolution of the elected members,” said Gerard Dollard, director of services, Clare County Council. The council has made a comprehensive submission to the department on the issue and has secured funding under the Special Resolutions Fund for two developments at Aisling on the Shanaway Road, Ennis and Bruachlan Grianán on the Westbury development in South East Clare, according to Mr Dollard. Motorists urged to avoid Corbally Road due to mains repairs

HOUSEHOLDS in South East Clare remain without water as Irish Water carry out essential works to repair a burst water main which has affected the water supply in the Shannon Banks, Westbury and Ardnacrusha area. The local authority is now advising motorists of traffic congestion due to the unplanned works being undertaken by Irish Water to resolve the issue. Homes and businesses in the locality were affected by disruptions to their water supply and reduced water pressure on the Mill Road, Corbally Road, Irish Estates, Shannon Banks, Westbury and outwards to Barrys Cross and surrounding areas. Works have an estimated completion time of 2pm. However this afternoon Limerick City and County Council said that water is not expected to return to the area until 7pm this Tuesday evening. The local authority is also advising motorists to avoid the Corbally Road and to use the R464 through the Long Pavement and Parteen as severe traffic congestion is expected on this road …
