Online registration for sports grants

FIANNA Fáil TD Timmy Dooley, is encouraging groups across the country to prepare their applications for grants under the new Sports Capital Programme.  “The €40 million announced for the 2014 sports capital programme will be of huge benefit to communities across the country and I know there are many group and clubs in Clare that are in need of funding for upgrade works under the scheme this year.  Whether it’s the installation of floodlights, new pitches, improved drainage, building sports halls or dressing rooms, the investment in local sports clubs is of huge benefit to communities and encourages more young people to be active.  Applications for the Sports Capital Programme will only be accepted online. You can register at www.sportscapitalprogramme.ie.   Applications will close on Friday, February 7.

Emergency funding delegation

CLARE TD Timmy Dooley yesterday met EU Commissioner for Regional Development, Johannes Hahn, to outline the case for emergency funding due to the damage caused to Clare and other counties as a result of the recent adverse weather conditions. In addition to the €23m needed to repair public infrastructure in Clare,  individuals in the county also need several million euro for damage to private property, both houses and land. Deputy Dooley was part of a Fianna Fáil delegation that also included Ireland North West MEP Pat The Cope Gallagher and  MEP for Ireland South Brian Crowley.

1.9 million target for Shannon in 2014

WHILE there has been some reluctance to publicly state short term targets for a recovering and restructured Shannon Airport, a report by the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Transport states that the aim is to have 1.9 million passengers in 2014. That would mean an increase of just over 500,000 on 2012, meaning around 10,000 extra people per week would have to be using the airport in 2014. It also notes the more long term target of 2.5 million passengers by 2018, a figure that Leo Varadkar said has to be met to give the airport a sustainable future. The report containing the information was compiled by the Oireachtas Joint Committee of the Oireachtas and is on the General Scheme of the Shannon Aviation Services and Miscellaneous Provisions Bill 2013. The committee that prepared the report is chaired by Mayo TD John O’Mahony. Fourteen other TDs, one of which was Clare’s Timmy Dooley and six senators are also on it. One …
