ENDA Kenny is to face protests when he comes to Clare on Monday, with the revised water charges still the subject of much public anger. Gardaí met earlier this week to make plans for Monday, when the Taoiseach is set to visit TTM Healthcare at Ballymaley, speak at the Shannon Chamber president’s lunch in Dromoland and open Genworth’s new business centre in Shannon. There is speculation that jobs will be announced at TTM Healthcare and while there were reports that new jobs would also be announced at Genworth, a company spokesman told The Clare Champion this is not the case. It is understood that another Shannon company, which is due to take on new staff in 2015, are also hopeful that the Taoiseach will visit them. The 1916 Relatives Association has welcomed the announcements that the Government has appointed John Concannon to head up the National Commemorative events in 2016. A spokesman for the group, which has a membership of over 800, said, “Today’s news is a new dawn and the group greatly welcomes the involvement of An Taoiseach, his secretary general, Martin Frasier and the appointment of John Corcoran. “Our group has spent the past number of months lobbying all key ministers to take the commemorations seriously. Sadly, one piece of the jigsaw is missing, the ongoing issue of the retention of properties on Moore Street. The group believe that the restoration of Moore Street is a central aspect to the commemorations.” The spokessman continued, “In the past, the group has been subjected to and deeply troubled by the various levels of incompetence by officials in the government department. President Michael D Higgins and Taoiseach Enda Kenny have led tributes to former taoiseach, Albert Reynolds, who died in the early hours of this Thursday morning. Mr Reynolds, who was 81, was first elected to the Dáil in 1977 for Fianna Fáil in the Longford-Westmeath constituency. He succeeded Mr Charlie Haughey as taoiseach and party leader in February 1992. Mr Reynolds served as taoiseach for two terms in a short period and in that time made a huge to the peace process in Northern Ireland. Mr Reynolds was a frequent visitor to Clare, and Shannon in particular, when he held the industry portfolio in cabinet. He also met a number of VIPs at Shannon Airport. President Higgins said, “I have learned with great  sadness of the death of former taoiseach and a member of the Council of State, Albert Reynolds. A FREE, interactive online maths resource for students and teachers in Ireland, which includes an option for live one-to-one tutorials, has been launched by Taoiseach Enda Kenny. The online maths lessons have been developed by Galway company, ALISON, a global leader in free online learning, in partnership with the award-winning tutoring company Maths Doctor from Macmillan Science & Education. The lessons, which are delivered by experienced maths tutors, are aligned with the Irish Leaving Certificate Project Maths Syllabus, for both Higher and Ordinary levels. To access the video lectures, students simply register and log on to the ALISON site. By Dan Danaher A RANDOM meeting with Taoiseach Enda Kenny blossomed into a great working relationship with one of the co-founders of an innovative award-winning tree mapping company, who has strong links with Killaloe. Enda Keane, who was educated in Killaloe, met Mr Kenny by chance at Merrion Square, Dublin back in December 2011 and they spent about 30 minutes talking about his business, Treemetrics, which has won and been nominated for numerous national and international awards. Born in Cork, Enda and his family moved to Killaloe when he was nine.His father, Paddy was a wildlife officer with the National Parks and Wildlife Service so it was no great surprise when Enda followed in his footsteps by studying forestry in UCG and UCD.
