Shannon Bill passes through the Seanad

THE ‘Shannon Bill’ passed through the Seanad this week and has been welcomed by Shannon Airport Chairman Rose Hynes. The Bill will now be presented to President Michael D Higgins for signing, leading to its enactment into law. The Bill will pave the way for the formal establishment of Shannon Group, which will combine the now independent Shannon Airport, with the property ownership and management activities of Shannon Commercial Enterprises Limited, as well as Shannon Heritage and the International Aviation Services Centre (IASC), which builds on the aviation related activities already located at the Airport and in the Free Zone area. As it passed through the Seanad on Tuesday, Shannon Senator Tony Mulcahy welcomed the new legislation and launched an attack on Fianna Fáil at the same time. “Deputy (Timmy) Dooley said we would need a €5 million bung every year for five years to keep the scheme going. Shannon on tourism trail in Lone Star State

A DELEGATION of 15 Irish tourism companies, including Shannon Heritage and five American tour operator partners, last week joined with Tourism Ireland in targeting hundreds of travel agents and influential journalists in Fort Worth, Houston and Austin in Texas With a population of about 28 million, the state of Texas is becoming an increasingly important market for tourism to the island of Ireland. This is something which bodes well for Shannon Airport where  transatlantic services have been increased this year. Minister of State for Tourism and Sport, Michael Ring also travelled with the group for the second of its ‘Jump into Ireland’ 2014 sales blitzes in the US. Tourism Ireland also introduced the country’s newest tourism experience, the Wild Atlantic Way at the various events. Similar ‘Jump into Ireland’ events will take place in Chicago and Boston, in September, as well as Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle, in November.

Easter fun at Bunratty and Craggaunowen

SHANNON Heritage has lined up a feast of family fun this Easter at  Bunratty Castle and Folk Park and Craggaunowen. Easter fun at Craggaunowen kicks-off on Easter Sunday with a special guest appearance from the Easter Bunny. A fun filled afternoon is planned with puppet theatre, magic shows, bouncy castle, storytelling, face painting and traditional Irish music as well as some delicious Easter eggs for all to enjoy. Visitors will also have the opportunity to view the famous Brendan Boat, which historian and explorer Tim Severin and his crew used to re-enact the voyage of St Brendan the Navigator, reputed to have discovered America centuries before Columbus. Thanks to Tim’s kindness, Shannon Heritage are fortunate to have the honour of housing the Brendan Boat at Craggaunowen for visitors to view and appreciate this amazing story of courage, determination and fortitude.
