Dawn of a new day in Ennistymon

After a combined total of 362 years of education, staff and students at the Ennistymon CBS, Scoil Mhuire Ennistymon and the Ennistymon Vocational School, performed their last official acts last Friday, as the class of 2023 collected their Leaving Certificate results. The schools, which have been central to the lives of tens of thousands of people across North and West Clare over their lifetimes, officially amalgamated on Monday to form the Ennistymon Community College. Each of the former school buildings will remain in operation for the time being however, as the state of the art new school on the Lahinch Road is not yet completed. The buildings at Ennistymon CBS, Scoil Mhuire Ennistymon and the Ennistymon Vocational School have been renamed the North, South and Central Campus of the Ennistymon Community School respectively, until the new building is officially opened. Positive Leaving Cert results across the county as the final page is turned on 362 years of education in Ennistymon

As more than 1,200 Clare students picked up their Leaving Certificate results this morning, three North Clare secondary schools were completing their very last official acts as places of study. There were large gatherings of students at the Ennistymon CBS, Scoil Mhuire Ennistymon and the Ennistymon Vocational School today, as the last Leaving Certificate classes from each school collected their results. The schools, which will officially amalgamate on Monday to form the Ennistymon Community School, collectively represent 362 years of education in the region. Schools across Clare have reported generally positive results this year, and the same was true of the students in the thee Ennistymon schools. “It’s a very special day for our school. We’ve had such a long history of Leaving Cert results going right back to the 1920s, and what a great group to finish with. Peak performance promised for final Scoil Mhuire musical

OVER the years since it opened its doors in 1979, Scoil Mhuire Ennistymon, has been renowned for all things musical. Producing school musicals to a very high standard is very much part of its tradition and audiences across North Clare and further afield have been wowed by productions including ‘Oliver’, ‘Calamity Jane’, ‘Godspell’, ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’, ‘The Sound of Music’ and ‘Les Miserables’. As Scoil Mhuire enters into amalgamation with the CBS and the Vocational School next year, its forthcoming show will be one like no other. Staff and students have promised “an absolute feast of colour and song for the eyes and the ears”. Rehearsals have been underway since September, under the watchful eyes of director and choreographer, Peter Kennedy and producer, Patricia Dooley. The high standards set by previous productions have pushed the cast and crew to new levels. Fittingly, the school will end its run of musicals by returning to its roots. Ennistymon team in running for student enterprise award

A TEAM from Ennistymon has been named among the finalists for this year’s national Student Enterprise Programme. BEA Scrubs from Scoil Mhuire, Ennistymon, the brainchild of Áine Hennigan, Eimear Lernihan and Bríd Áine Rouine, will represent Clare in the junior category final on May 18. The Local Enterprise Office initiative has seen over 300,000 Irish students take part over the course of its 20-year history. The announcement of the finalists took place at The Helix in Dublin, the venue for this year’s finals, with this year’s Ambassador, All-Ireland winner and All-Star, Limerick’s Sean Finn. Over 24,000 students took part in the Student Enterprise Programme this year, which began in September 2021 and returns to a physical National Finals event for the first time since 2019. From over 24,000 student enterprises, the top five businesses in each of the three categories, Senior, Intermediate and Junior have been selected to go forward to the final at the Helix on May 18 where …

Gallery exhibition for Ennistymon students working with Foust

As part of the Creative Engagement Programme 2021-22, Scoil Mhuire Ennistymon has been exhibiting work completed by its Transition Year and fifth year students. The exhibition, named ‘Transcendence in the Landscape – Painting with Emotion and Memory’, was created in response to the local environment of the students, with help from artist Sara Foust. Alongside the art teacher Ellen McMahon, the students collaborated with Sara through a range of workshops carried out throughout the duration of the project. Ellen said, “The school gets involved in the Creative Engagement programme every year. It involved the full group of TYs and five fifth year art students. “Sara came up with a plan for us and the workshops took place out at her gallery, before moving out into the landscape to make work from that with Sara’s work as inspiration.” Each of the workshops focused on the different aspects of Sara’s work, including concepts and processes, application of paint and her use of …

Clare student’s recipe for success at national enterprise awards

A CLARE student has taken second prize in the Intermediate Category at the National Final of this year’s Student Enterprise Programme. Mae Kivlehan, from Scoil Mhuire Ennistymon, was awarded for ‘Tried & Tested, which was a cookbook with a compilation of recipes from sports stars, celebrities and locals. The winning student worked under the guidance of her teachers, Laura Garvey and Caitriona Hynes. The finals of the Local Enterprise Office initiative were broadcast virtually on Friday from Croke Park with An Tánaiste Leo Varadkar and Ambassador Derval O’Rourke speaking with host RTE’s Rick O’Shea, as students and teachers watched on from across the country. The Junior Category was represented by The Art Co from Scoil Mhuire, Ennistymon and the Senior Category was represented by Portable Pouches from St. Joseph’s Secondary School, Spanish Point. Pupils’ fabulous creations on display

ART students from Scoil Mhuire in Ennistymon will exhibit craftwork at the National Conference of Principals and Deputy Principals in Galway this week. Fifth-year art students of Scoil Mhuire, Ennistymon exhibited their Fabulous Felt Creations at National Museum of Ireland, Collins Barracks, Dublin earlier this month. Now the group has been invited to showcase their work at the national conference on Thursday and Friday. The project, which consisted of hand-made and hand-dyed felted scarves, cushions and flowers, was warmly commended by Minister for the Arts, Jimmy Deenihan at the opening reception in the national museum. This prestigious exhibition was a culmination of the work of more than 70 secondary schools nationwide, who were awarded a bursary for projects of artistic merit from the National Association of Principals and Deputy Principals ‘Creative Engagement’ fund.
