Public consultation on proposed Shannon Town Park project

Members of the public and stakeholder groups interested in the proposed Shannon Town Park project are being asked for their input during a five-week period of public consultation. The €910,000 project will see the enhancement and incorporation of the existing town park woodland and the adjacent Rineanna Park into a flagship town park for the people of Shannon. A full design team, led by a Landscape Architect and Urban Designer, was appointed in late September to progress the design and planning phases of the project and Clare County Council anticipates that contractors could be on site in mid-2017, subject to statutory planning procedures and approval. Clare County Council is now asking members of the public for its input while the Local Authority is also planning to engage with various stakeholders, including schools, residents, locals and visitors to the area. Applications sought under Structures at Risk Fund

The Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht has reintroduced the Structures at Risk Fund (SRF), which in the past has financed conservation works on a number of protected buildings in private and civic ownership in County Clare. The Department, which is administering the €624,000 fund, says it will consider no more than two applications from any local authority. The SRF, which applies to structures in immediate danger of significant deterioration, has previously approved funds for works undertaken on Byrne’s Shop in Ennistymon and Oatfield Church in Sixmilebridge. Clare County Council is inviting applications from around County Clare in relation to the fund, the closing date for which is 4pm on Thursday, March 12. “The purpose of the SRF is to assist with works to safeguard structures protected under the Planning and Development Act 2000 (as amended), including works to proposed protected structures, and in certain cases, works to safeguard structures within Architectural Conservation Areas, where, in the opinion of …

Report identifies 18 peninsula heritage sites

A comprehensive report on the proposed marketing of the Loop Head and Kilkee Heritage Trail on the Wild Atlantic Way, has identified 18 heritage sites in the peninsula area. The report on the pilot project, a collaboration between Clare County Council Heritage Officer, Congella Maguire, the Heritage Council, Fáilte Ireland and Loop Head Tourism, will be launched later this month. The project was community-based with the aim to develop a local heritage trail along this 60km section of the 2,500km Wild Atlantic Way. A total of 18 heritage trail sites were deemed to be worthy of inclusion in the final list, which includes the four Wild Atlantic Way Discovery Points. Award for Shannon RehabCare

RehabCare in Shannon recently  highly commended in the Rehab Group Innovation Awards 2014 at an award ceremony in Dublin for its ‘What’s Good For Your Head?’ project. This project won the award in the ‘Health and Social Care Innovation’ category and was selected as a highly commended out of 64 innovative projects, which had been submitted from across the organisation. ‘What’s Good For Your Head?’ was set up to promote positive mental health in the community. Eight people with experience of mental health difficulties worked with a quality and planning co-ordinator in RehabCare to develop a project and booklet on positive mental health and wellbeing. The project examined what mental health is, looked at ways to recognise mental health difficulty and also provided some self-management practices. The booklet contains all of this information as well providing information on local support services.
