Operation targeting organised crime gang yields cash, guns, drugs, cars and horses THREE people with Clare addresses have appeared in court charged in connection with one of the biggest garda operations targeting serious crime. Over half a million euro in cash and account funds; drugs; high-end vehicles; and horses including a €50,000 stallion, were seized during the major operation which took place in a series of raids, including along the Clare Limerick border. The garda investigation, code-named ‘Operation Coronation’, was specifically launched last year to target the assets of the Limerick based Keane Collopy crime gang. In excess of of 300 gardai from the Limerick Division, supported by national units, members of the Defence Forces, as well as officers from Revenue and Customs, swooped on 67 homes, premises, and lands. Further searches were conducted and an additional six people have been arrested in relation to Operation Coronation, which was conducted by Gardai in Clare, Limerick and Tipperary. Gardai have revealed that last Wednesday evening, further searches resulted in the recovery of €40,000 cash along with evidence relating to the sale and supply of controlled drugs. Eleven bank accounts were frozen containing in excess of €200,000. Three high-value cars were also seized along with evidence of the accumulation of wealth from suspected drug trafficking. A fourth car was seized for having no valid insurance. A further six people were arrested during the course of the evening. On Saturday morning a search was also conducted on waste ground in Prospect, Co. Limerick. Two firearms and an extendable taser baton were seized during the course of this search, all of which were concealed in plastic wrapping. Gardai from the Clare Garda Division are involved in a major search operation across counties Limerick, Clare and Tipperary targeting organised criminality in Limerick City and its environs. Currently nine people are in custody in relation to this operation. As part of Operation Coronation, in excess of 170 members of gardaí from Limerick, Clare and Tipperary Divisions supported by the Criminal Assets Bureau, Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau, the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation, the Emergency Response Unit, the Armed Response Unit and Regional Dog Unit commenced a search operation at over 60 premises this morning at 6am. The operation is also supported by three teams of  Irish Army Search Engineers, the Army EOD team and the Army Helicopter. Operation Coronation is targeting organised extended criminality, drug trafficking and the financial returns achieved from this type of activity through money laundering.
