LISTEN: Training legend shares Limerick Christmas Races memories

OVER THE coming days we have a number of previews of Limerick Racecourse’s cracking Christmas festival. We’ll kick off with Dave Keena speaking to legendary trainer Michael Hourigan who handled such greats as Beef Or Salmon and Doran’s Pride. The veteran trainer recalls his own ambition as a young man in the game to emulate the success of Jimmy Murphy from Cork, who always sent out numerous winners at Limerick’s Christmas festival. And his words of advice to jockey Shane Broderick when piloting Doran’s Pride on his chase debut are words to live by! Significant investment has been made at Greenmount to provide additional outdoor amenities including marquees, catering units, bars and live music facilities. The measures will ensure customers have a safe and enjoyable experience on their return to Limerick, after the Mr Binman Christmas Racing Festival took place behind closed doors last year.

Second Weekend Of Walk-In Vaccination Clinics

  A second round of Walk-In First-Dose Pfizer Covid-19 Vaccination Clinics will be held at designated centres this weekend for people aged 16-years and older who have not yet been vaccinated. The local clinics are being hosted in the vaccination centres in Limerick Racecourse, Treacy’s County Hotel, Ennis, and the Abbey Court Hotel, Nenagh, as part of a national effort triggered by the HSE nationally, in light of the success of the walk-in clinics held in vaccination centres nationwide during the August Bank Holiday. Clinics in the three Mid-West Covid-19 Vaccination Centres will be held at set times from Friday, August 6th to Sunday August 8th. They include Limerick Racecourse from 2pm to 7pm; and Abbey Court Hotel, Nenagh from 2pm to 7pm on Friday, August 6. People can call into the West County Hotel, Ennis from 8.15am to 12.30pm on Saturday. On Sunday August 8th the Limerick Racecourse will be administering the vaccine from 10am to 12.30pm and 1pm …
