Carmody’s Clare braced for the challenges ahead

Clare senior camogie manager John Carmody is targeting an All-Ireland quarter-final spot for his young team, but before that they’ll have an historic first ever outing in Páirc Uí Chaoimh on Sunday, writes Joe Ó Muircheartaigh. The All-Ireland is where it’s at but there’s no better preparation for the gruelling group stages to begin in late May than by having a Munster Championship tie to look forward to on Sunday. Carmody looking to Croke Park bounce for future of Clare Camogie

A rising tide lifts all boats comes to mind when speaking to John Carmody on his hopes for the future of Clare Camogie. Not content to just savour a first All-Ireland Final appearance in Croke Park this Sunday, the Kilmaley clubman, who guided the Clare minor camogie teams to successive All-Ireland deciders at the backend of the noughties, is confident that if the current momentum can raise the bar for all their adult teams. “Look, we’ve a fantastic team, particularly this year as our results have been outstanding. Carmody named new Clare camogie manager

Kilmaley’s John Carmody has been appointed manager of Clare’s Senior and Junior Camogie sides for 2023, having been joint manager with Conor Dolan last season. He was previously manager of the senior side for two seasons in 2012 and 2013, guiding the county to the Munster title in his first year at the helm. That provincial success was the first Clare had experienced in 38 years. Carmody had previously been involved with the county minors before taking on the senior role. He is currently finalising his backroom team which is to be confirmed at a later date.  In a year of near misses, Clare’s Senior side were forced to come through a relegation play off against Offaly to preserve their status. Clare lost three and drew two of their group games after reaching the Munster final. They beat Tipperary after a replay to progress to the provincial showdown while despite their best performance of the year, they suffered a heartbreaking …

On Saturday they will face into their third semi-final in a row so does that change the approach in any way?
