ADDICTION support meetings should be allowed to continue in person, as and when Covid-19 restrictions move to Level Three and beyond, according to Clare-based senator Martin Conway. Fine Gael’s Seanad spokesperson on health, has described support group meetings as “life saving” and called for them to be designated as essential services, even in the event of restrictions moving to the highest, Level Five, status. Since Dublin moved to Level Three restrictions last Friday, face-to-face meeting have been suspended there. GARDAI arrested three people and seized over €100,000 of suspected drugs in Spancilhill on Wednesday night. As part of an ongoing operation Gardaí from the Divisional Drugs Unit, assisted by the Armed Support Unit, executed a search warrant at a house in Spancilhill shortly before midnight. During the course of the search Gardaí seized €100,000 of cocaine and a quantity of cannabis herb. €1,600 of cannabis plants were also seized from a small grow house that had been set up inside the house. All of the suspected drugs will now be sent to Forensic Science Ireland for analysis. Two men, aged in their 20s and 40s, and a woman in her 30s were arrested at the scene and are currently detained at Garda Stations in Co. Clare under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996. Gardaí have seized €21,500 of suspected cannabis in Clare. Shortly after 7.30pm on Monday, September 21, gardaí from the Kilrush Drugs Unit, assisted by uniform Gardaí from Kilrush, executed a search warrant at a house in the Kilmurry-McMahon area. During the course of the search Gardaí discovered €16,000 of suspected cannabis plants. As Gardaí continued to search the property they discovered €5,500 of suspected cannabis herb. All of the suspected drugs will be sent to Forensic Science Ireland for analysis. No arrests have been made but Gardaí are following a definite line of enquiry.

Gardaí have arrested a woman and seized €72,000 in cash following the search of a house in Westbury in South East Clare. Shortly after 7pm last Sunday evening, Gardaí from the Limerick Divisional Drugs Unit, assisted by the Armed Response Unit, executed a search warrant at a house in the Westbury area. The search operation took place as part of an ongoing operation targeting the sale and supply of drugs. During the course of the search Gardaí seized approximately €72,000 in cash. A woman, aged in her 20s, was arrested at the scene and brought to Henry Street Garda Station. She was detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996 and has since been released. A file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Gardaí have seized €14,500 worth of suspected drugs and cash during searches in counties Clare and Limerick during the past week. As part of an ongoing operation targeting the sale and supply of drugs in Limerick city, 14 searches were carried out by the Limerick Divisional Drug Unit, in conjunction with detectives, uniformed gardaí, the Armed Support Unit and Southern Region Dog Unit. These searches took place in the Meelick area of Clare and in Garryowen, St. Mary’s Park, Kileely, Island Road, Moyross, Old Cork Road and Prospect area of Co. Limerick. During the searches gardaí seized €4,000 alprazolam, €2,900 cannabis, €920 cocaine and €30 alprazolam along with €6,650 in cash. Gardaí also seized drug paraphernalia such as a cocaine press and deal bags. All of the suspected drugs will now be sent for analysis. ON Wednesday as a result of routine operations, Revenue officers seized two packages containing Kratom at Shannon Airport. The first package contained over 0.5kg of the controlled drug in loose powder form and had an estimated value of €10,400. The package originated in Austria and was destined for an address in Tipperary. The second package contained two 1kg vacuum packed blocks of Kratom and had an estimated value of €40,600. The package originated in Luxembourg and was destined for an address in Mayo. Investigations are ongoing. These seizures are part of Revenue’s ongoing work targeting the illegal importation of drugs. A quantity of cocaine was recovered by gardaí during a search of a house in the Kilkishen area last Friday. Gardaí carried out a search under warrant under the Misuse of Drugs Act in a house and during the course of this search the drug, with an approximate value of €2,300, was recovered. Gardai in Clare have also reported since Monday of last week seven incidents of possession and one of cultivation or manufacture of drugs were detected. A total of 33 searches were carried out from Monday, April 20 to Monday, April 27.
