Beware your investment biases

We wrote an article earlier this year about “Staying out of your own way”, a piece that resonated with a lot of people in these volatile investment markets. In this article, we spoke about how managing our own behaviours is the single factor that will probably have the greatest impact on our investment success. Over the past six months, the Irish financial markets have experienced a period of growth, with the main stock market index, the ISEQ, increasing by 7.66%. Notable performers include Kingspan, with a year-to-date increase of 37.66%, and Glanbia, which saw a rise of 43.13%. However, the market also witnessed some downturns, as seen in Permanent TSB Holdings, which decreased by 37.50%. Analysts expect the ISEQ to trade around 9860.80 points by the end of the quarter, reflecting a cautiously optimistic outlook for Ireland’s financial future. Regatta time in Clarecastle

THE Clarecastle Regatta returns this June with organisers saying there is “great excitement” building as the village prepares for the popular event. The regatta takes place on Sunday, June 2, from 2pm to 6pm with committee chairperson Donal Carey telling us, “It is a real family day out”. “The regatta promises to be a day of fun with a wide range of events to thrill all members of the family,” he said. “Returning firm favourites include children’s fancy dress parade from the Church Grounds meeting at 1.45pm, dog show, bonny baby, children’s races, long puck across the water and best dressed lady competitions as well as a wide range of market stalls, vintage cars, live music and food.” Other events include the Hanging Tough Challenge, Soccer Dart, amusements, farm animals and zorbing. Clarecastle Regatta returns this weekend after two-year hiatus

AFTER a two year Covid-related hiatus the popular Clarecastle Regatta returns this coming Saturday June 25 from 1.30pm to 6pm. According to organisers the Regatta promises to be a day of fun with a wide range of events to thrill all members of the family. Returning favourites include a children’s fancy dress parade from the church grounds meeting at 1.15pm, dog show, bonny baby and best dressed lady competitions as well as the market stalls, vintage cars live music and food. Other events include the “Hanging Tough” challenge, children races and amusements. There will be hurling shootouts, the Long Puck and footballs tests of skills. The local Currach Club Fergus Rovers will be on hand to give people an opportunity to sit into and manoeuvre the currachs. Other water events will include kayaking and Stand Up Paddle Boards. AS we count down to the opening of the polling stations for Friday’s local and European elections, The Clare Champion this week talks to five people with a deep knowledge of  Clare politics about the candidates and their prospects of success.
