Six finals in prospect for Super Sunday

All but the senior decider are down for decision on Sunday week (October 1st) as eleven clubs vie for adult ladies’ football championship honours at intermediate and junior levels. The Intermediate Final clash of West Clare rivals Kilrush and Miltown Malbay takes precedence as a coveted place at senior level is on the line for two sides that have certainly paid their dues when it comes to finals. Newmarket-on-Fergus’ welcome return to adult football has proven hugely encouraging so far as they look to halt Fergus Rovers’ remarkable momentum-fuelled run from Junior B in the A decider while Rovers’ successors will be either Burren Gaels or Kilrush’s second strings. The make-up of the Shield Finals at intermediate and Junior A will be confirmed this weekend as Clooney-Quin host Clarecastle on Sunday evening (5pm) for the right to take on Doonbeg in the intermediate version while Wolfe Tones and Banner Ladies must meet again to book their place in the Junior …

Clare woman to be honoured at national LGFA awards

Kilmihil’s Monica Callinan is set to be honoured at next month’s Ladies Gaelic Football Volunteer of the Year award ceremony in Croke Park. Callinan has been named as the recipient of the County/Provincial Officer of the Year award for 2022. The Kilmihil club woman served as Secretary for Clare Ladies Football board for five years, stepping down at the end of last year. Raymond O’Mahony of Eire Óg was elected to the position of County Secretary. Callinan continues to volunteer with her local club and is currently serves as Chairperson of Kilmihil Ladies Football Club. Kilmihil have experienced success at these awards before with Marie Egan winning Club Coach of the Year in 2016. Overall, 10 volunteers from across the country will be honoured on Friday February 10. The LGFA’s Volunteer Hall of Fame winner is Mary Power O’Shea, a stalwart of the Mullinahone club in Tipperary.
